Bearing in mind the upcoming opening of ZOP (Zachodnia Obwodnica Poznania, S11)

Thanks to the Druzhba pipeline; the last remaining section of the S11 (ZOP) not opening any time soon (as far as I know)

‘Upcoming’ doesn’t mean tomorrow or a day after. The context was obvious.

Your native language is just fine; the problem lies elsewhere. EOT.

With this pace, S5 may be completed before A1?

Expressways

Seems that after one year or more google maps understood how insane it was using for 4 or more lines expressways same line on the map as narrow DK roads. Now expressways looks same as motorways , only what I found missing is S8 near bialystok.
Even DTS looks like motorways which is actually good, same S22 to Kaliningrad - however this shouldn`t be "motorway" line
Nevertheless all looks much better now

No, Google didn't understand anything. It was a change of the whole map, check Italian superstradas for example.

As well with the Spanish autovías. Furthermore, they have changed the way of tracing tolled roads with a black outline.

I don't know how Google understood that in case of Poland. Maybe they read our forum?

It's a major improvement, the maps now more realistically present the actual situation.

The problem was mainly European, in the U.S. every freeway was indicated as such, whether it was an Interstate, U.S. or State Highway. In Europe, only motorways were indicated as such, and not the many expressways which are de-facto motorways, like the droga ekspresowa, superstrada, autovía, voie expresse, etc.

It's an improvement but still not good. The B49 in Germany has not yet expressway standard all the way between A3 and A45. The expressway-like roads around Würzurg (2 carriageways a 2 lanes) are not indicated as expressways.

Has the (European) map changed over the past hours? I thought some simple 2-laned E roads in Germany and Czech Republic were also indicated as expressways in a lower zoom. The German B50 still looks strange on zoom level 7.

US had always different approach to the problems solving, less formal in opposite to EU. Not that everything on this side of the pond is better but in case of motorways and expressways when so many countries are involved it is better to go that "american" way. In the end: google maps are created for regular people and should be easy to use it .

Google Maps is international, and they want one layout for all countries. So they should use international definitions (controlled-access, limited-access* and other highways), not national definitions, because these are different in every country.

* a common misconception in Europe is that 'limited-access highways' are expressways like droga ekspresowa. This is not correct. A droga ekspresowa is a controlled-access highway, because the only way you can access it is through interchanges. A limited-access highway is a highway with partial control of access, including traffic signals and occasional driveway access. This road type is less common in most of Europe than it is in the Americas or Asia.
