The plan is to close completely the old DK8 between the Warszawa-Janki interchange and the shopping center in the middle of the photo. So that they can easily build the remaining ramps. No ramps or viaducts are needed to allow traffic on S8<->S8.

Warszawa-Janki interchange still doesn't look near completion in the photo or am I missing something?

I would love to see the road fully open to traffic at the end of July

The entry ramp to WA-21 cannot be opened in June. So opening the S8 would require closing the southbound Mszczonowska Blvd, south of the shopping center.

There is a layer of asphalt. It is enough to open a new motorway in Poland

Here is a photo (which I understand forum user Były Misiek took 9 June 2015). The overpass at the right is WA-21. I think it's clear in the photo that there is not a layer of asphalt on the ramp entering WA-21 (from the left in this photo) because there is still no ramp.

Here is the exit ramp of WA-21 (which does have a layer of asphalt) leading to the new S8 (toward Piotrkow Trybunalski) in the right in this photo. DL-115 (newly paved in the last two weeks) is in the foreground. DL-112 and then DL-115 is one possible detour (of a few possibilities) for the Piotrkow Trybunalski bound traffic from Janki if the new S8 will be opened before WA-21 can be opened.

kilometres

I summed up from statistics thread (as I didn`t find sum total there) all tenders
for expressways(motorways)
And seems it is 813 km

So actually we have
1. 523 km 2x2(2x3) in construction (including project and build which is still in project phase like S3)
2. 813 km 2x2 (2x3)in tender phase (most of them are advanced phased which
means contractor chosen , papers in UZP , or opening offers
moved 20 days ahead - which is as well very advanced phase,
as 80% of tender time take procedures before offers opening

When this is completed it will be 4000 km 2x2 (2x3) expressways/motorways

So we are no nearer to discovering when realistically S8 Opacz to Janki can open?

I guess the first solid clue will be if the bus operator files for a route detour. If I understand correctly from attempting to read the Polish language forum (my command of Polish is quite poor) the bus operator must file for a route detour at least two weeks in advance.

Additional 251km motorway and expressway sections will be tolled from 30th June 2015. Is there any map which sections will be tolled?

Thanks. If I got it right, it's just for vehicles > 3.5t?

Yes. The timeline to expand the tolled network for passenger vehicles is currently unknown, but it will be no sooner than in 2017.

I always wonder, was there a technical reason (not just political) that ViaToll was only for >3,5t vehicles, and not for all cars (on roads where cars need to stop and pay a person)

It seems like having an electronic tolling for cars would be a solution very inexpensive since the Viatoll infrastructure is generally present

There already is a <3.5t version - ViaAUTO - https://www.viatoll.pl/pl/pojazdy-os.../co-to-takiego

But it's pretty much useless - the private operators of motorways don't accept it, and because the GDDKiA made a rare screw-up and built completely useless toll infrastructure, ViaAUTO offers no real benefits at all.

One proposal on the table was to toll motorways using ViaAUTO only and could still happen, but it would make no sense if the private motorway operators still maintain their separate infrastructure.

Quick question - has DK29 in Słubice been re-routed? I noticed last week that the huge sign on the roundabout next to Most Miejski has had the DK29 number covered up, as has the distance sign outside Collegium Polonicum. It would be logical to put the German numbers there, but no - they've just been covered up without replacement.

Warsaw Southern Bypass (S2) officially became an expressway last weekend. It took only 21 months to get there.
