Good news keep coming in: contracts to build two sections of S7 were signed today. One is Ostróda bypass (the contract includes southern bypass [DK16]), the other is Chęciny – Jędrzejów. These sections will be under construction within couple of days.

Horizontal signage

Vertical signage

The only showstopper (landslide of escarpment) - but with such commitment they will finish it in no time

beautiful scenery and surely a very pleasant drive once opened!

They should have made the sign for the Zywiec exit more interesting, maybe add the Zywiec beer logo (dancing couple) next to the word like the country ovals :P

The junction near the brewery is named Browar (=brewery or colloquially beer)

I'm just glad the signs are both the same size and legible.

Thanks. Those were Google's two recommendations. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice about which is better. Is there any interesting construction to see along either route?

Option 2 is probably better, because there is less traffic and also you can quickly leave the Poznań agglomeration via S11.

Third option - http://www.google.pl/maps/dir/Pozna%...8852!3e0?hl=pl

S5 is under construction along DK5 near Trzebnica and between Korzeńsko and Żmigród.

A couple years ago I did DK 5 / S5 from Poznan to Leszno, the road wasn't good but it was a decent enough drive. Seeing the expressway sign and the 2-lane expressway was kind of surprising compared to the other S roads I've known (that are motorways in all but name)

Then I took DW 323 from Leszno to Lubin (wrong way for you), that one was hilarious But it was a nice experience of, let's say, the evolution of Poland in past 100 years.

It depends on where you're coming from.

If you're coming from the north/west on the S11, DK92 or A2, the DK/S5 route is the only real option. You'll waste a time going all the way over to the Poznan-Nowe Miasto junction, and you won't make that time up on DW434.

On the other hand, if you're coming from the direction of Warsaw or Bydgoszcz on the A2/S5, the S11/DW434 route is faster.

But it also depends on the time of day - if it's during rush hour, avoid the mess that is the DK5 in Komorniki because the queues can be horrendous. In that case, it's worth travelling over to the S11 as you've got a clear run most of the way.

I'll be leaving from the city center in the morning, near the reconstruction over the railroad. I guess the commute traffic will mostly be going into the city rather than out from it.

Today, I drove Poznan - Wroclaw - Brno - Bratislava. The most remarkable thing about the trip is the realization that an extension of the S8 from Wroclaw to Klodzko is already needed. I realize that there are higher priorities that are even more needed, so it would not have been reasonable to include an S8 extension from Wroclaw to Klodzko in the 2014 to 2020 funding cycle, but it really should be included in the 2021 to 2027 funding cycle. From Klodzko to the CZ border seems ok, for now.

Absolutely agreed. I'd be happy with even a S2 road for the time being, provided it bypassed all the crappy small towns on the way. Even getting the S8 to Łagiewniki would really help a lot - that first 10-15km of DK8 is a nightmare, especially after the A8.

Klodzko-CZ border is only tolerable because of the ban on transit truck traffic. If they opened up the border to all, it would become very quickly intolerable I suspect. Still, the DK33 can be dangerous - I was nearly wiped out close to Boboszów by one idiot that took the corner on the wrong lane.
