Hello guys

I am planning for a trip to Poland for the new year. Looks like I will also be using the highways.

How are the tools managed? Do you have toll stations, you pay only for bridges, or a Vignette?

Assuming you'll be driving a car rather than a commercial truck, only the A-class roads are tolled. There are old-fashioned toll booths approximately every 20 to 100 kilometers or so at which you'll have to stop and pay several euro/zlotys. The prices are low, but having to stop repeatedly is a nuisance.

I'm not sure if the tolls on A2 have risen or not, but the rest is accurate:

The toll (for vehicles <3,5 tonnes) on state controlled motorways is 0,1 PLN/km (~ 0,25€/10km):

- A4 Wrocław - Gliwice, 162 km: 16,2 PLN (~4€)
- A2 Konin - Stryków, 99 km: 9,9 PLN (~2,5€)

Private controlled motorways:
- A1 Gdańsk - Toruń, 152km: closed tolling system, 0,2 PLN/km; 29,9 PLN (~7€) for the entire section

- A4 Mysłowice - Kraków, 52 km: open tolling system, two toll gates, 10 PLN (~2,5€) on each gate.

- A2 Poznań (Kleszczewo) - Golina, 64 km: open tolling system, two toll gates, 15 PLN (~3,5€) on each gate.

- A2 Rzepin - Poznań (Dopiewo), 134 km: closed tolling system, 33 PLN (~8€) for entire section.

A nice statistic: there are currently over 1000 km of motorways either under construction or in design phase of design & build contract

Tolls have gone up on the A2 -

Rzepin-Nowy Tomyśl : 18zł
Nowy Tomyśl-Poznań : 17zł (these two are combined into a closed toll system)
Poznań-Września + Września-Konin -17zł for each section

I suspect that we're going to see the introduction of either a road tax or a vignette system within a few months - most probably vignettes, as such a tax wouldn't affect the core electorate of the government to be. I can't imagine Poland has the resources to keep building and maintaining these roads without some sort of tolling system in place.

I cannot access the A2 concession website via either Firefox or Edge. It says there is a problem with the security certificate of the website...

I hope there will be electronic vignettes like in Hungary and Israel. Stopping to at tollbooths to pay is just awful.

Not sure what are you referring to. USA has plenty of tolled highways.

This looks great. Plan is Slovenia-Vienna-Lodz-Krakow-Warsaw-Vienna.

It falls just in the right sections

Yeah, we can only dream of the German system in Poland.

The new government won´t copy it for two reasons:
1. It´s German. (PiS has not much love for Germany.)
2. It´s free. (No money for the state.)

True. BTW, could you please edit a bit of wiki about the Motorways in Poland. I cant find the sections on the mapa stanu autostrad(last version as of 05.10), and this is useful. Please look at previous posts dating from 17 Oct(my last edit date) Thx

If that's in order, it's a pretty zig-zaggy itinerary.

It is. It was at first Krakow-Warsaw-back home

But now we are stopping in Lodz for 1 day as for some people the cheapest way is flying to Lodz.

You will love Lodz, check out Piotrkowska Street and Manufaktura and the ECI around new railway/bus hub. Lodz has the largest number of pre-war authentic apartment houses in Poland.
