does Gliwice really count as a city?
It has a population and surface area considerably less than most suburbs of Toronto, its population is similar to Burlington, Ontario with a surface area 39% less (discounting the completely rural area of Burlington and Gliwice, Burlington is probably denser population...)

DTS there is as if they made a freeway along New St in Burlington to meet Oakville or something similarly small... and I'm sure walking across that DTS covered section is less fear-inducing than trying to cross Dundas out there
Mind you, Ontario drivers are extremely courteous to pedestrians, and Polish drivers... do their part to promote healthy exercise in the community

Polish towns and roads compared with Canadian cities, I don`t think it`s a good example....
Walking across DTŚ in Gliwice is better than before.
DTŚ area some years ago

This same place :

FYI, Gliwice has a population of over 100000, which already counts as a city of local/regional importance(as classified). But I think it is not Gliwice alone, but maybe the whole GOP that counts, because a city itself it doesn't count, but the agglomeration is certainly one. As somebody said that the center is Katowice, not Gliwice. If to count that, we have maybe more than 1,5 mln, I think. Just Warsaw with too much industry

Polish cities ranking in the 2015 TomTom Congestion Index (similar to the Travel Time Index or TTI).

the point is that Gliwice is part of a large conurbation of about 4 million people in Katowice. Actually, I found the opposite, in Toronto cars speed up and aim for you when you try to cross, they were very careful and courteous in Poland. I should remind you that even with downtown Toronto's massive population densities, we still have not got any car free pedestrian zones, just a few small squares (Dundas, N. Phillips and Metro). You can't escape cars anywhere in Toronto, but looks like there is a new ped area in Gliwice.

My experience has been more like that of Kanadzie.

Have you ever been to Toronto? The PATH is one of the biggest and nicest pedestrian areas in the world, with absolutely no motor vehicles. It would be difficult to find a city anywhere in which it would be easier to escape cars than in Toronto.

The PATH is underground. I wouldn't call that very enjoyable.....or nice, for that matter.

with all due respect, I've lived in Toronto all my life, the PATH system is underground where you feel like a mole in a maze and it's very easy to get disoriented. I am talking about outdoor pedestrian space lined with retail and trees, sculptures and fountains etc. PATH has no vegetation, little public art, no sky view and you breathe recycled air.

This is a public space in PATH

And this is what I'm talking about:

back to Gliwice. I think more of the tunnels should have been buried.

What's done is done with DTS in Gliwice - hopefully urban planners can learn from it and move on. Let's look forward to the next opening - A1 motorway Stryków - Tuszyn in August

I lived in Toronto one winter and commuted 2 kilometers each way in the PATH every day. I was never disoriented. More public art in the PATH would be nice, but the point is that it's possible to walk places without dealing with cars.

I agree and I have previously expressed that opinion in this thread. Perhaps in coming decades more of it will be covered.

Indeed, and the exit-symbol instead of the interchange-symbol.
That's a huge step forward in directional signposting !
