Iím sure itís feasible but the question is: wouldnít it be unnecessary and disproportionately time-consuming, given the fact a temporary traffic system would last only a couple of weeks tops? I mean there is no need to divert traffic, itís a possibility. If itís not too much to organize, I donít see why not.

Labor is the rub.

Keeping it open while working around it requires increased coordination. It also requires more time (because everything has to be done in two passes rather than in a go) to complete the project. More time means increased labor expenses, which in turn increases budgets ... Taken to its extreme (i.e. in the U.S.) it can (does) spiral out of control. Keep in mind here that labor is pretty much the only time-dependent variable -- the concrete and asphalt and earth and gravel and whatever else doesn't care whether it takes one pass or two.

That's why closing a facility completely while reconstructing is both faster and cheaper.

Hello everyone!

I've got a huge favour to ask - does anyone have a picture of the A8 that I could use in some marketing materials? The GDDKiA won't answer my e-mails, and phone calls to them just result in being told to "send an e-mail".

I only need one picture - I would be really, really appreciative if someone could help

The article on A8 motorway Poland on Wikipedia has some great photos which were taken after it's completion and opening:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A8_autostrada_(Poland)

A fair few photos there to choose from

The demand is smaller and the share of long distance traffic is often exaggerated. There is a huge drop in population density between Poland and the Baltic republics.

Just as a reminder, the population of Poland is larger than that of all these combined:

  • Lithuania
  • Latvia
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • Sweden
  • Norway
  • all the subjects of the Russian federation, which this road may have some relevance to:
    • Pskov area
    • Novgorod area
    • Leningrad area
    • St. Petersburg
    • Republic of Karelia
    • Murmansk area
So even if I heartfully welcome this road, I understand that it is first and foremost a Polish project, intended for Poles themselves. That us foreigners may enjoy it as well, is just a bonus. (Though it may be that the international connections may help in the funding by EU.)

Yes, but from Suwalki north to the LT border, which reportedly will be built by 2021, it is mainly international traffic.

Actually it would not be a madness to open only the Budimex section to the A1/S8 junction (Boat South). That would spare the drivers some 10 km of several villages, including Tuszyn.

Is it considered a part of DK89?

Probably not. Maybe DK91 will be routed this way.

This would be really nice, at least, no need to go off the motorway all the way from Warsaw to Wroclaw .

Not to mention, much less nuisance, less traffic jams and more safety for all the inhabitants of those villages .

It looks very safe indeed. I wish all multi-lane roundabouts in my country were like that one, it looks almost poka-yoke.

I'm always amused by new alignments on DK9x roads
what happens to old one? Perhaps German-style DK91a, or the more attractive Italianesque DK91bis? Perhaps the Continentally-incomprehensible British form, B1179144

They lose the "K" category and become a "DW". They can be further downgraded to DP or DG by local government.
