As I understand it the plan is to open A4 (Rzeszów - Jaroslaw) at the end of July with one section of it down to one lane open then at then end of August all lanes will open fully

I'm taking some friends by car from Gdansk to Krakow later this month by car. Can anyone kindly tell me where I go after A1 bypass around Lodz reaches S8, do I continue on S8 or go onto a different road to get to Krakow. Thanks

straight south towards direction Katowice on DK1 and S1, then take A4 east to Kraków. The easiest way.

On behalf of all SSC members and guests in this thread I'd like to say a massive well done and a huge thank you to the construction workers, planners and officials for getting A1 Łódź east bypass opened a whole month ahead of schedule. Can't wait until 2018 to see the remaining A1 between Pyrzowice and Częstochowa Północ to open

Not that far, the section Częstochowa - Piotrków already has motorway width and profile, only that it has at-grade inersections instead of multi-level interchanges. And it is in bad condition...

Agreed, it's basically a 1970s motorway that lacks interchanges. But it's a new alignment highway (not the twinning of an older road) and minor roads often do have grade-separation.

Only one more major road opening left for 2016: A4
After A1 the next most important opening

There are now enough A and S roads in Poland connected to each other that we can start to reasonably call it a "network". Yay!

Look on this map attentively. Even if you fill in the A1/S8(if you magnify it more, it looks as if it were open, but on small scales, it takes days to fill in), it is yet too early to say about that. Well, now Warsaw is connected well with Wrocław, Poznań and even Gdańsk and Katowice(sub-expressway standart DK1), but A4 is quite separate from everything, and, apart from the near-motorway sections and S8, expressways are as if the cotton were rapped and then thrown onto the map of Poland. But, if everything goes well as it is for the moment being, your phrase will be valid by the end of 2020.

Is there a detailed map of the S1 DŚU with the planned route and interchanges?

The A4 is connected to the A1 by the S8. There are still significant isolated sections of A and S roads not part of the network. Five years ago, some posters here were writing of the Polish motorway network when it was only isolated segments and I pointed out that it was not yet a network. Now, most of the A and S roads are connected to each other.

Still, there is no single mesh of Polish motorway network. I'm not counting this one http://www.google.pl/maps/dir/50.268...6b8366!1m0!3e0

Correct. The network will not be a meshed network until 2018, when the S3 will connect the A2 and the A4.
