I guess the crystal palace tube station could have a travelator underground to the side entrance of the new Crystal Palace mall, or they could move the station to an underground one a few hundred meters up which should have a direct connection to the mall.

What became of the old Crystal Palace mainline station I see currently disused on your map, is that impossible these days to rebuild?

But year, it would never get as good transport links as the other two mentioned above, but being on an existing tube line as well as new bus links would be a good start.

Much of the Crystal Palace station is still there I believe, complete with underground passageways and all that. I think you can find photos on Subterranean Britannica.

Just checked it out, and impressive. So is the rail corridor still there?

Old London Areas

Hi El Greco,
Impressive collection - do you have any 19th century views of the area known as Horselydown (Horse-Lie-Down) situated south of Tower Bridge, east of the approach, or do you know where I may locate some.

Well, how quickly can Crystal Palace be built? It could replace one of the temporary Olympic Venues.

Sadly I cannot go to this (next Monday) but it would make an interesting diversion during one's lunch hour:

I think that is a wonderful idea, but such a large museum outside of central London would find it quite difficult to attract the visitor numbers that it would usually expect, especially as so many museum visitors are in the central area.

That, and museums in the UK are often free which would make it very expensive but without financial return.

Still, that aside, apparently the vast majority of museum collections are not shown because there is not enough space, so another museum could never go amiss.

No I dont, unfortunately. You should contact either Southwark Council or Guildhall Archives they have pretty large collections of old photos.

This site has photos of Great Maze Pond and Snowfields (among others) -

Let's not beat around the bush. Whores Lie Down is the root of this one. There are plenty of other bowdlerised street names, if you look carefully.

That's pretty much all that is I'm afraid... The site of the station and goods yard has been completely covered with housing. The tunnels between there and Nunhead are still intact, but toward the northern end of the branch, again a lot of housing has been built on the trackbed.

The station site today:

This two are interesting - I'm amazed by how many cranes there are on the wharf's you'd think they'd hit each other with that little room.

Has anyone got any photos of the More London site before the wharfs were pulled down in the 80s?

A selection of paintings by the genius that is John Atkinson Grimshaw, you really have to see his paintings in real, images just dont do them any justice whatsoever.....

It's taken from Southwark Bridge looking at Guys Hospital, look on Google Maps Street View to recreate a very similar image.
