Hey, these commieblocks don't look that bad; buildings seem to be in good conditions, most cars are new (so they are not that poor); in Paris, Lisboa or Barcelona they wouldn't be better (even worse in some cases).

Yeah I know, but the design is tragic, especially on the banks of the Danube... Those apartmens were built only a few years ago, so its totally unacceptable...

Nice pics!
I like the reconstructed commie-buildings, and the surroundings are nice, and more European too! Great progress! |

Reconstruction of commie-blocks based on the national budget is underway. In the past two years, several blocks were modernized lead by mainly the local governments of Kaposvár, Szeged, Debrecen and Székesfehérvár (government vs. opposition 2-2
). Szekesfehérvár and Szeged won funds for renovation of 13000 and 8000 flats as part of a 2 year programme started on 2007.01.01. The "pioneer" of commie-block-reconstruction, Kaposvár isn't far behind, with its 5000 flats. But Kaposvár's programme encloses not only the modernization of the building itself, but its surroundings aswell. Those commieblocks in Budapest don't look that bad, well at least not as bad as most of the ones in Petrzalka district.
One interesting thing I noticed that there are some air conditioning units visible. You never see this on the commieblocks in Slovakia! And it doesn't really get much hotter in Budapest than in Bratislava...

Why? It could get pretty hot in the summer, especially in a concrete building! Air conditioning units are not so expensive any more. You can find units from 10360 SKK ,and don't even have to look hard. No to mention, the possibility of buying it for instalments with a 0% intrest at some places. 864 SKK/month for a year, is almost "nothing" for my/your comfort. U can buy 6 Big Mac meals (don't ) a month at your local McDonald's for that amount of money... In my opinion...

Infinite, it is not true, many of flats in Petržalka has AC units, I see a lot of then in my surroundings, but I think it is too expensive.

Well, it might be that there really are some, but I just never noticed. Anyhow, there's definitely not many...
Qtya: You don't need to convince me about the advantages and availability of AC units, we have them installed in all our properties.

I found an interesting article about a fund, how they want to reconstruct a lot of commieblocks in slovakia in the next few years.
