Hobbit films will be a trilogy Peter Jackson confirms

The Hobbit film project will be extended to a trilogy, director Peter Jackson has confirmed.

In a posting on his Facebook account, Jackson said: "It has been an unexpected journey indeed, and in the words of Professor Tolkien himself, 'A tale that grew in the telling'."

The first instalment is due out on 14 December and the follow-up on 13 December 2013.

The 3rd film has bits from the appendices of lord of the rings that tells the story of what happened between the hobbit and lotr. The 3rd hobbit film will tie the two trilogies together nicely. Or so I assume.

the SIX MINUTE trailer bored me stupid, it doesn't bode well.

i re-watched 'kingdom of heaven' the other day. i rather enjoyed it this time (it did go rapidly downhill once the siege of jerusalem began, but mostly because it coincided with more being asked of orlando's acting skills...and he doesn't have any).

it amazed me at how much better the film is with the extra scenes, it adds so much depth to green/nortons characters and makes blooms meteoric rise not seem so bullshitty

doesnt improve his speech towards the end though

few of us are already meeting up for this film, 7-8 of us. Film is coming out on October 26th.

I agree, he is a bit overused, though I have to admit he is damn good. I hadn't even heard of this movie till I saw this, it looks amazing. I got no idea what it is about though, is it something similar to the butterfly effect, the plot that is.

It's based on a book by the same name. I must admit, I started reading it years back, but gave up fairly early on as the language used in the first chapter is super 'ye olde school' and is a bit of a slog. Had I realised at the time that book was a collection of six stories, all written in (extremely) different styles, I would have pushed through.

I recently picked it up again after seeing the trailer and now (60% through reading it) I'm enthralled.
