Sogo (Plaza Indonesia) is closing down!!!

Hey, this is quite sad. Sogo PI probably ushered the era of upmarket dept stores in jakarta, and now it is closing down after so long. I remember attending the opening party as a 6 year old as my parents were invited to the function...

Unless it's replaced by a similar league department store, this could be a boon for the upcoming Seibu in Grand Indonesia (or is there some sort of collusion involved i.e. to reduce competition????) HMM...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Rencana Penutupan Sogo Plaza Indonesia Resahkan Karyawan

Correction: hehe i made that comment above before I properly read the article. my suspicions were correct...since both SOGO and SEIBU franchise are owned by the same company, I guess they want to maximise the visitors in SEIBU, especially during the crucial months of GIST's opening... sad...

Thats too bad. Sogo PI is a classic, the first upscale mall in Jakarta. I used to be awed whenever i went there when i was young.
