Are they nuts? It looks like Tesco's supermarket.

Could they have picked a worse entry? I don't think so.

It's bleak, boring and depressing. Just what the center of Warsaw does not need.

Everyone involved deserves a smack over the head.

A few of the other entries:

Composition of the jury:

Paweł Althamer - Artist, Warsaw

Christine Binswanger - Architect, Herzog and de Meuron, Basel

Michał Borowski – Chairman, Chief Warsaw’s Architect

Jacek Lenart – Speaking Juryman, SARP representative

Daniel Libeskind – Architect, New York

Bohdan Paczowski - Architect and critic, Luxemburg

Maria Poprzęcka – Director, Institute of Art, Warsaw University

Anda Rottenberg – Chairperson of the Programme Board of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

Andrzej Rottermund – Director, Royal Castle in Warsaw

Sir Nicholas Serota – Director, Tate Gallery

Deyan Sudjic – Director, Design Museum in London

Adam Szymczyk – Director, Kunsthalle, Basel

Tadeusz Zielniewicz – Director, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

you would have thought that a jury with the likes of Daniel Libeskind on it would have picked somthing that doesnt look like another commieblock.

It's very minimalist, however any one of the other designs would have been far more striking but judging by the winning design that's not what they were after and in terms of fitout, space and cost it may have been the most practical? What's the facade clad in besides the glass? Rendered concrete?

I don't think everyone must be fond of minimalism of this kind but i'm really unable to understand people who compare this to "commieblocks". Cmon, there's no other building of this kind in Warsaw ! It has nothing to do with these mass-produced monsters (except it's square). All in all, the merit of good architecture is that it is different from everything else but at the same time it respects the space it is in. This design does just this - it is in sharp contrast with the Palace of Culture and Science and expressionist designs like nearby Libeskind's Złota 44 or Golden Terraces but it still respects the fact that it is in the very centre of the city that is about to become dense, just by the principal street.

Let's be serious - there's no room for another Guggenheim in this spot !

BTW, The render is screwed, it has different geometry than the actual model. And this is just a concept, not finished design. Much of what this will actually look like depends on building material and skills of workers.

This is a very deep disappointment.

Just a lifeless, boring pavilion. Its sole "advantage" consists in enhancing the already powerful predominance of the Palace of Culture and Science (also by the Museum's too low height), and its "harmonising" with the nearby commieblocks. While the purpose of the exercise should be exactly the reverse - to distract attention from the mediocre structures of the Communist era, that are so omnipresent in today's Warsaw.

The city authorities' first attempt to put something extraordinary in the mostly empty very heart of Warsaw, thus ended in a painful failure. Neither does this poor start augur well, for further developments in the area.

No, we don't have any such buildings.
Pseudo-modernist commieblocks are something completely different.
