The first ¾ has four lanes, the remainder two lanes with a median barrier, judging from this video:

Old school road planning and building

(Unfortunatly it's in Norwegian, but it's so cool that it deserves to be posted here anyway)

E39, Bergen

The Norwegian government has given the green light for the construction of 18 kilometer of motorway between Os and Bergen, part of E39. The current travel time on this stretch is 35 minutes during off-peak traffic. This will be reduced to 17 minutes. The project cost is 6.5 billion NOK / € 790 million. Out of the 18 kilometer motorway, 14.7 km runs in double-tube tunnels. Construction could begin next year and will be completed in 2021-2022.

About time. E 39 from the south entering Bergen looks like any residential collector road. Hilly, bendy, narrow, two lanes and a botch-job pedestrian/bicycle path.

E 39:

Hånesveien, Kristiansand (better standard, things were actually planned here):

Hmm, was the bypassing the Google car did of that "Bergene Holm AS" lorry legal? If it wasn't, would Google Maps count as picture evidence to give them a fine?

Isn't the truck headed northbound, and Google headed southbound?

One of the very most needed road projects in Norway IMO! Tho the road from Os to Troldhaugen is not worthy an E-road near a larger city, the travel-time situation is´nt fully as bad as you say. 35 minutes counts for the whole section between Bergen city center and Os (28 km). The new road will start 10 km south of the city center, of which 6-7 km is grade separated motorway-ish road today.

Also, highway 580 will be rebuilt on a 3 km stretch as a tunneled dual carriageway.

A 1172 meter long tunnel opened to traffic in southern Rogaland. It is the Bjønnsberg Tunnel, part of County Road 42 along Lake Gya. It is located approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Egersund. Its purpose is to eliminate the impact of avalanches.

Total construction cost (3 km) was 218 million NOK / € 26.7 million.

Good news! New motorway E18 Rugtvedt - Dørdal (18 km) will get a width of 23 m (H9-standard) instead of planned 20 m (H8-standard). This means hard shoulders of 3 m instead of 1,5 m. The speed limit will be 110 km/t instead of originally 100 km/t. This increases the costs with 150-200 mill. NOK.

The construction starts late 2015 or 2016, and the opening will be in 2018 or 2019.

But as the article reads, the bridges will still have 1,5 meter shoulders. And this 17 km section of E18 will have many briges with length of 200-400 meters, because the road is placed high in the terrain to avoid tunnels.

Guess the reduced with of the bridges might be because projecting of the bridges have come very far, and widiening means starting the calculations all over again. But looking at the geometry-drawing of Rugtvedt-Dørdal shows that a lot of the bridges that are placed in curves will have large widenings of the shoulder to get good sight in the inner curve. No wonder this section will be expensive (ca 4 billion NOK) with many bridges curved in both the horizontal and vertical alingment.

Recent road news;

E18
The E18 Gulli - Langåker will have a 110 km/h speed limit starting on Wednesday 1 October. It opened as a four-lane motorway on 4 July with an 80 km/h speed limit. 110 km/h is the highest speed limit in Norway currently.

Toven Tunnel
The 10665 meter long Toven Tunnel is planned to open on 1 November 2014. It is the longest road tunnel in northern Norway and the fourth longest overall. It connects the coastal communities around Sandnessjøen with E6. It is a toll road, the toll rate is 85 NOK without a subscription.

Øksfjord Tunnel
The modernization of the 4252 meter long Øksfjord Tunnel in the far north is is completed. It was called the worst tunnel in Norway prior to modernization. The County Road 882 runs through it, to connect the remote coastal town of Øksfjord in Finnmark. The tunnel originally opened in 1988 and was the longest in Finnmark at that time.

E18
The new E18 between Melleby and Momarken will open to traffic on 1 October. It is a four-lane motorway with a reduced width of 17.5 meters. It is 7.7 kilometers long and has a 90 km/h speed limit. The AADT is expected to be around 8,000.

One of the major problems with the tunnel prior to rehabilitation was water leaks. Water would freeze in the winter causing dangerous ice build-up.

Locals are still not happy with it because it's remains a single lane tunnel with two-way traffic and they could only afford to repave 1/4 of it.

According to Vegvesen, the AADT is 290 vehicles. That's very low, but the tunnel is over 4 kilometers long, increasing the likelyhood of encountering another vehicle.

The floating tunnel concept, as seen from below.

E39 Rogfast

I'm confused by the length of the Boknafjord Tunnel (Rogfast project). It was originally advertised as a 25.5 km twin-tube tunnel.

However, in June 2013, they decided to reduce the incline from 7 to 5%, making the tunnel 1 km longer (26.5 km). However, nearly all Vegvesen material still refers to the 25.5 km length. However one drawing includes the northern tunnel portal at 26.570 m.

1 lane tunnels are common in the faroese and in iceland. Oncoming traffic is not a real problem if you stick to the rules.

This is a leaflet to let Tourists know:http://www.visitfaroeislands.com/med...-heimasidu.pdf.

Faroese tunnels are somewhat challenging since they are low and small - at least some of them. The longest 1 lane tunnel is a little over 3 kilometers.

Doesn't that tunnel have an alternate road (show here)

PS: I deeply dislike that Northern Norway often doesn't have the biggest scale satellite coverage on map engines

I think it's closed. There is little point in maintaining two road links with an AADT well below 500.

Northern areas often have poor imagery, not only in Norway, but also in Russia, Canada and Alaska.

I assume it's down to laziness when preparing public presentations and that 26570 m is correct. After all the problems with the Oslofjord-tunnel @7%, I would find it strange to introduce the same problem in a larger and longer tunnel.
