Croydon College Vocational Tower (88m)

This has just been approved. It will be the tallest building in Croydon (unless the 155m Croydon Gate is built sooner).

It's a mixed-use scheme -

Floors

I just counted 32 floors on that first picture. Wouldn't that be over 100m+

Good post, and a good looking tower for Croydon.

Looks quite decent, I will have to take a walk up there and have a browse and see whats on the boardings.

I remember for years that there was a low rise development that was approved and they had the rendering of it on the boards for ages but I also always thought that it was a ideal site for some thing much taller so my wish came true!!

Right oppersite this will be the Croydon Gateway tower and about 150metres up the road is the NLA Tower (50 pence building), currently the tallest in croydon. So if this and the Croydon Gateway are built all 3 tallest build will be clustered together - sweet!!!

not bad. Only been through Croydon on the train on the way to Gatwick, but looks a reasonably pleasant design. That first image from the front looks like a scaled down version of Chicago's Trump Tower. Sort of. Can't stop comparing things at the moment.

Wonder if UNESCO are going to have a whinge about Croydon's mini cluster impacting on the Tower of London?

It is also very positive, despite being in the Evening (sub) Standard

An 88m building is being proposed in the suburbs and suddenly "New York comes to Croydon"? Thatīs what I call exaggerating.

20 tallest buildings in the capital, what are they on about? Looks good though, Croydon will have a thoroughly modern skyline in a few years, Croydon's poor reputation is exaggerrated.

wouldnt the full height of this building be closer to 110 meters given that surely the first 10 floors that the college will occupy will need to be higher than those on the residential floors (and since most entirely residential buildings with 29 floors tend to be around the 90m maark anyway)

Well, the 20th tallest building in London is 110m (Kings Reach Tower). So if the Evening Standard have got their research right, it would mean that the building would be above 110m.

This is also a scheme that has been put together by a 'public authority' namely Croydon College. Well done to them for negotiating the assult course of planners and developer partners. It delivers floor after floor of lecture space all paid for from the top half of the building developemnt of flats. Very innovative and saves the tax payer cash too!

It wont be right in front of the Stanhope Gateway development, because a rather bland square building will go inbetween facing George Street. It will be a striking development with a park on both sides - College Gardens to the south and the Stanhope Park to the north. Great views to the South and East. It really looks like the edge of london from those levels.

Utterly dull. Boring boring boring.
Jesus, it feels like someone has created a `design a building` computer game. `now select cladding... click a) for blue glass b) for clear glass and c) for green glass. Select a) for silver stripes b) for no stripes or c) for teracotta pannels. Select a) for curved corners b) for angled corners etc etc etc. Originality guys. Come on!!!! This building has nothing distinctive about it whatsoever. For something so prominant it is an utter disgrace that something so bland can be acceptable.

Yeah, but this is Croydon, not the City of London.
