Some real booms afoot, and nice to see the peace dividend being reaped in Belfast with some proposals.

A couple of horrors in there though... Canopus and that one in Middlesbrough...

Nice, but why are there completed projects in that list?

There are a couple more from Wales:

"Glass Needle", Cardiff
OK it's roof height is just under the 100m mark but the facade overrun will reach 107m so I think it's worth a mention:

City Spires, Newport
The roof height for this is only estimated at 93.5m based on the floor count but it could be taller. In addition the structure on top of the roof may well take the total height to well over 100m:

Oh yeah, and I'm absolutely certain that Middlesbrough tower will not even get near the 100m mark.

Shouldn't have included towers which are'nt even approved yet IMO. Which leaves you taking away 6 unapproved towers from Manchester and a whopping 9 from Birmingham. If you are counting drawings which have been done on a computer though then you can add King Edward towers in Liverpool.

Yeah dudes gotta say that while there are a lot of gorgeous projects in various stages right now, that Canopus looks like it's about forty years past its construction start date. I thought such crap buildings were limited to the 60s, sadly I was wrong.

Yeah, I really like it myself. Simple, unpretentious architecture: One of my favourite proposed/approved towers along with Criterion, La Lumiere, Quay Point Tower and of course The Pinnacle.

I dunno I just get a "been there, done that" kind of impression from Canopus. It seems to lack originality like the architect just said "Aww screw it I'm not going to design a new building I'll just copy something from forty years ago." As it is I have no problem with the design but I would like to see 60s designs left in the 60s and see 21st century architects doing something new.

Well it is heavily influenced by the modernist movement but the cladding appears to be of a very modern style. As a broad rule I'd agree you shouldn't copy previous architectural styles but to take on ideas of styles gone by seems a very positive thing to me.

To put things into perspective, here's a photoshopped image showing all the big current skyscrapers in the U.K outside London:

Now imagine all of the buildings Newcastle Guy posted as well
