It says proposed tender submission, QR must be planning to build something there. And I assume an over bridge was one of the criteria

If so, then they must have gotten the consent of QPAC, as it would have to connect to it surely. It would be a good alternative to having to cross at those lights though.

I grabbed some shots of the new forecourt yesterday, and I think it's looking pretty good, even if a couple of the trees are looking a bit sad right now... Good to see some of the station's plaster work has been nicely painted! I'm just waiting for the columns near the entrance way to be done!

i suddenly remembered how terrible it looked with that ancient crumbling bitumen out the front. Such a simple yet effective upgrade

Well with South Bank Corporation been assimilated back into BCC, its unlikely we will see any development here move along at any decent speed.

The 'Sad' trees are bottle trees which wont look any good until established.
They are also deciduous.

I'm hoping the ground level retail spaces hurry up and get tenanted... at the moment it is just a bit depressing seeing tumble-weeds and hearing crickets as you walk along it.

I reckon a MOS Burger would do really well there...

Nah, more depressing than that, the crickets got stuck in the lights and died (look up, lights full of bugs).

The foyer cafe is open or is that not one of the tenancies you were referring to...?

That's the only one open and isn't open at night which is depressing for a street which has so much activity.

Good pictures.

The music conservatorium is a shocker, and a total loss for street activation.

The foyer cafe is specifically to cater for the people attending an event at the Convention Centre. It makes sense that it isn't open at night, and besides, if it's anything like the one in the original wing of the BCEC, it'll be overpriced and not all that crash hot food wise.

I think this section of Grey Street will really take off with the Rydges renovation, and I wouldn't be surprised if the tenants to BCEC are waiting for that to finish before opening. The construction work does cut off the BCEC from Grey Street proper. While the QCM hasn't gotten any better (built without enough foresight IMO), the removal of those temporary stairs along Grey Street have at least made it possible to walk down there properly again!

I specifically asked if that was their raison d'ętre but she immediately stated they were planning and hoping for street trade....I guess they would say that though...

Just a little Rydges update, for anyone with facebook, check out the Rydges South Bank page for a ton of construction photos and renders on some of the new areas. Looks pretty impressive!

The BCEC sign only went up recently. I'm amazed at how many people ask me where it is when we're standing right next to it.

Well, after a long time coming, Title has opened on Grey Street, and going by my little look in there Saturday, it's every bit as good as the James Street Store. It's a very long, skinny store. Also, the Olio foyer cafe/bar at the BCEC looks to be trying to show people that it is not just a "bite in the foyer" but a proper South Bank restaurant in their own right (and a pretty good one I've heard from some sources).

Meanwhile, the renovations to Rydges are largely complete, with a number of new Grey Street retail tenancies to be filled. A marked improvement over the previous situation.
