Are you serious? What is the highest percentage of Dubai population came from?

No offensive, I sense that racism issue is going on right there because of billboards. It just don't feel right since there are no middle eastern people on these ads and where are they in Dubai?

I remember a number of years ago, around the time they were building the CN tower, there were a couple of 200 story towers planned for Toronto.
Needless to say, none were ever built, but they had all kinds of pictures in the paper, and meetings about them.

There was highrise that was planned to be very tall, that they even started, brought in massive climber cranes from Australia, dug a big hole, and start laying concrete. They had the basement portion all done, parking and what not, the elevator shafts with the cranes stood a few floors above ground, and then the office market colapsed, and it was never finished. The cranes sat for some time, till they were sent elsewhere, and then a park was built over the parking garage and other underground portions.

Oh i didnt know when that attena had been placed but it means that the percentage off increase in height is even smaller between Chrysler and Empire State and that means that the Burj Dubai is even a bigger winner at this comparison off increase in height in percentages.

Well here's what Wiki has to say about Dubai:

Quote:
Dubai is unusual, in that its population comprises mainly expatriates, with UAE nationals (Emiratis) constituting the minority. The majority of these expatriates come from South Asia and South East Asia. A quarter of the population reportedly traces their origins to neighboring Iran.[3] Dubai is also home to some 100,000 British and other Western expatriates. The UAE government does not offer any form of naturalization or permanent residence to expatriates. However, foreigners are permitted to purchase and own specifically-designated property without a local partner or sponsor ("freeholds," as described below).

Nearly all of the commercial establishments are run by expatriates with a silent local partner who merely "rents" the business license for a negotiated annual fee without taking part in any capital investment. The numerous free trade zones allow for full expatriate ownership.

There is an increasing number of "freehold" villas and apartments on artificial islands such as the Palm Islands and in many other parts of Dubai (such as The Greens, Dubai Marina, and International City). Ownership is either permanent or on a 99-year lease, depending on the area; freehold areas were announced in the press in July 2006.[4] Ownership or lease of a completed residence allows the owner to apply for (but not guarantee) a residency visa on a three-year renewable basis. The Federal Government does not state whether foreigners may or may not own property and has left individual emirates to formulate their own property laws.
So apparently there are many significant minorities, with no true majority.

Anyone else suprised at the lack of a press release about the building having "more floors than any other skyscraper". It's at least 105+ (floorplate) 2 basements and a lobby. The walls must be around level 110 or so.
Hmmm. Maybe because the previous holders were WTC 1 and 2 they don't want to bring up painful associations?

i have noticed sumthing by comparing my own pix ... there hasnt been any increse in height in this month ..but the wings are rising really fast ... ..here i have stitched 3 pix from the same angle dating from FEB 8, FEB 17 & FEB 23 resp. .. all three have only 28 floors above the 3rd mech floor (76 )

i have marked floors till 104 only for easy comparison .. the actual number is 110th (111 u/c) ..
3 covered in tht yellow frame (107) ..n 3 in the slip form (110)... .. working on the 111th floor now..

I think that until the last weeks of March they will begin to build more floors, maybe is because they're waiting the facade.

I believe the core has stopped for the first core reconfiguration.

Thanks for that Syedaouf. It confirms my thoughts that all wings were progressing quickly at the moment. Certainly making the whole structure look larger without rising.

It may be the work on the core has paused so the wings can catch up and increase stability. I see no other reason.

From now on the core will be a different shape. They are most likely changing the forms.
