From personal experience, Portuguese tunnels are extremely unsafe. It was the first time in my life that I saw overtaking allowed inside a two-way, one-tube tunnel..

I never saw that in my life and I've driven around in Portugal quite a lot
Where was that and are you sure the overtaking was done using the oncoming traffic lane?

I've never seen something like that in my holle life. And I live in Portugal.
You've got to be mistaken.

And the tunnel photo that Paulo2004 posted is from a motorway. Maybe a tunnel in the A-23...

Hey guys come on, there's no need for this... :P
I think Nephasto is right though it must be a motorway and this tunned is one way. There's another tunned parallel to this one for traffic going the other way, that's what must have confused you Edolen!

that acces lane is VERY short. This is really dangerous. You have to merge immediatly, or start at 0 kph when entering the freeway. This is extremely dangerous.

And what about the size of the sign?

He was just using the sign's size to serve as comparisson to the access lane length.

That access lane is indeed very short, but that is understandable, taken into account that it's an urban motorway...

The other fact that mentioned was that there were shared acceleracion/decelaration lanes merged into one. Well, if it's long enough, that's not a problem, unless it's heavilly used. If it's short or heavilly used, than it's not the best solution.

PS: By the way, which urban freeway is that?
