I like the yellow American traffic lights. Those stand out and are therefore the safest. You don't want to miss a traffic light. In some countries traffic lights do not stand out enough, gray pole with a small black traffic light and no 'border'.

In Belgium this used to be our traffic lights.

But since around 2008 the 'visibility screen' (the border) was removed. Officialy because it was deemed unnecessary because of brighter led lights, they also catch less wind.

The poles are fortunately still coloured in bright colours so they can be missed. But I do miss those visibility screens. A traffic light should stand out as much possible. The yellow American traffic lights are good at that.

The traffic lights I like most are the South African ones. A coloured pole, visibility screens and a nice design

First time I've seen this. How does this "ONE VEHICLE PER GREEN EACH LANE" thingy work exactly?

That's a metered on ramp. That prevents too many cars from getting on a freeway at the same time and causing a chain reaction backup on the freeway. A proven method of reducing congestion without adding lanes.

Pretty much all I'd imagine. I noted the lack of it in the Netherlands though.

The UK uses this setup......as well as in Hong Kong (it used to be a British territory after all)

According to Wikipedia:
Quote:
In Germany, the Czech Republic and some other Central European countries, a combination of red and orange lights is used just before the switch back to green.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffi...opean_standard

I can tell you that Portugal, Spain, France and Italy (and likely Andorra, Monaco and San Marino) do not use the red+amber before green.

A traffic light in Burgos, Spain.

The white line around the uppermost "group of lights" becomes red when the traffic light itself is red. I had never seen it before.
