It could have been ideal if this is Philippine's tallest because of its great location . Yung PB Com kasi ng daming katabi na matataas din . Ironically , PB Com is owned by Filinvest , one of Ayala's competitors in business district development ( Ortigas , being their main archrival )

Well allegedly according to emporis this was supposed to be a tree tower complex this one being the shortest and then a 50-storey and a 65 storey version. Eventually this did not push through due to the economic crisis

The third tower was actually supposed to be 70 storey.

Economic crisis my ass!!!

The only reason why there was a proposed 50 and 70 storey was when the PSE announced it would consolidate the Makati and Manila stock exchange and move to Tektite Towers (since it was the ONLY building at that time big enough to hold the trading floor), Ayala was SO desperate to keep the stock exchange in his Ayala Avenue instead of it going to Ortigas his company suddenly came up with that proposal literally overnight and showed it to the press. All it was were three white rectangular office towers that are of those height with a small box that is to be the PSE trading floor. The next day after the press release (and before any final decision on the PSE location), there was digging at where Ayala Tower One now stands.

Since the PSE, as a compromise, decided to have two trading floors, Ayala did not bother continuing with the project (which included the demolishion of the old Makati Stock Exchange Building, which still stands and in full use as of today). Man! You should have seen the advertising war between Ayala Land and Philrealty in the Manila Bulletin and Philippine Daily Inquirer at that time. Its Ortigas vs Makati! You think SSC City vs City threads were uncivil, childish, and nasty? LOL!

I never knew that the whole dispute was that bad ! Thanks for the informative post .

*ahem* Anyway, I love the dark, powerful, and mysterious feeling the tower brings out. It looks so conservative and corporate-looking, a fitting image for Ayala.

If anyone has any photos of the lobby, I'd really appreciate it.

the ayalas built this one in a hurry, and this would have been taller, but soon the ayalas felt they were losing ground to tektite towers that it would have been a waste of millions of pesos if built bigger, and true enough, it ended being a futile endeavor.

not only did the ayalas lose a monopoly of PSE which they thought they had forever, they also lost a big chunk of it when tektite won the
tug-of-war fair and square, relocating PSE's headquarters to ortigas center.

as queetz mentioned, SEC wanted a bigger building, and the tektite was too big an office complex for ayala to beat.

the ayalas can at least be lauded for setting a philippine record for constructing a veritable tower in the shortest period of time

The non-flat side of this building and the nice color of it make it my favorite building in Makati.

With 35 floors and four basement levels for parking, Ayala Tower One is home to the Philippine Stock Exchange and serves as the corporate headquarters of Ayala Corporation. The building boasts of a computerized Building Management System (BMS) that monitors and controls most of the building’s systems including elevators, security, lighting and fire protection. It has a 100% back-up emergency power using five generators with a combined capacity of 6.25 MV. The building has 13 high-speed elevators and 4 escalators used as access to the trading floor. The 25th floor houses the Executive Lounge and 5 more function rooms. Other amenities include a beautifully landscaped park, a gym with sauna and salon facilities, executive dining and a cafeteria. Owner and developer is Ayala Land Inc.

from the 25th floor where the executive lounge is, upwards, there's a hole in the middle of this tower where you could literally see the elevators going up and down.
