I heard during the Oakwood Mutiny there was a tank parked right in front of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. That would have been a crazy sight for the people around the hotel and Glorietta Malls. Are all the units here for lease only? |

Perhaps we should rename this thread as ASCOTT MAKATI. The Oakwood signage at the top of each towers were already taken down and replaced with ASCOTT. Haven't been inside in this building lately but my aunt used to stay at the 24th floor.

The official name is Ascott Makati. See the following news article/column today...
![]() http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/033...mpanies02.html Ascott Group to expand RP operations By Honey Madrilejos-Reyes BusinessMirror Reporter March 30, 2007 INTERNATIONAL serviced residence owner and operator Ascott Group is eyeing further expansion plans in the Philippines, making the country an important site for its three global brands. In an interview Thursday, Arthur Gindap, country general manager for the Philippines, said after the acquisition of Oakwood Premiere from the Ayala group last year, Ascott is setting sights at establishing operations in Ortigas Business District, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Alabang, Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo. He said the group is interested in bringing in its Citadines Apartment-Hotel brand to Ortigas, BGC, Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo, which he described as all urban locations that can build-up recall for the brand. We have initial discussions with some groups but theres nothing solid yet as of this time. But our goal is to expand our presence here, Gindap said. The Somerset serviced residence, on the other hand, can match the Alabang environment, he added. The Group currently operates the Somerset Millennium and Somerset Salcedo in Makati. The Ascott brand, for the meantime, would be exclusive to the Makati Central Business District, through Ascott Makati, formerly Oakwood Premiere. There can only be one Ascott in each key city, providing top-of-the-line service to business executives and industry leaders, Gindap said. Ascott Makati would be undergoing full renovation starting this third quarter with the Group spending around $4.5 million for the refurbishment of the 306 rooms. Ascott commands a certain rate, Gindap said. In the past, Manila could not support such rate, but the last two-and-a-half years have seen an improvement in business sentiments. We believe that Ascott Makati is well positioned to cater this bullish market. The Ascott Group is the largest international serviced residence owner-operator outside the United States with about 19,000 serviced residence units in key cities of Asia Pacific, Europe and the Gulf Region. It operates Ascott, Somerset and Citadines in 47 cities in 21 countries, which include London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Barcelona in Europe; Singapore, Bangkok, Pattaya, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Xian, Hong Kong, and Chennai in Asia; Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland in Australia / New Zealand as well as Dubai in the Gulf Region. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/033...mpanies05.html Commercial queen Margaret Jao-Grey BusinessMirror Columnist March 30, 2007 After paying the balance of the US$54-million purchase price last March 22, The Ascott Group finally took physical possession of the Ayala Land Inc. Glorietta 4 property, which used to be managed by Oakwood Residences. Rebranded as Ascott Makati, the high-end serviced residence is owned by a real-estate investment trust called Ascott Residence Trust and is managed by Ascott International. Occupancy rate at Ascott Makati remains at more than 90 percent, in part because Ascott has retained Oakwoods staff and suppliers. Ascott International also manages in the Philippines three mid-tier serviced residence projects under the Somerset brand, two (Millenium and Salcedo) as joint ventures. The other Somerset property (Olympia) was developed by the Limcaoco family and the units are owned by individuals and families. Going up the corporate tree, the Group is partly owed by the Keppel Group and, indirectly, by the Singapore government. This early, Ascott International country general manager Arthur Gindap is already looking at other properties that it can go into joint ventures with, particularly for its Citadines brand, a European concept that caters to travelers.
