between cities, in the highways, we have toll stations every 100 kms (60 miles) aprox.... but if you exit the highway between toll stations, you have a cheaper toll... Inside the cities we have free flow toll, they are cheaper because the sensors are very near each other, so you pay only for the distance you drive.

Awesome, very European, especially Spanish as opposed to other freeway countries like Brazil or Argentina.

This is a complicated question as each company negotiates rates with the government. but i'll try to answer by giving some examples.

For urban highways, there's free flow system and distance between collection booths is usually short. The prices charged vary greatly depending the time of the day, vehicle type and location of the collection booth.

Here is a chart of prices for Costanera Norte:
http://www.costaneranorte.cl/pdfs/tarifas09.pdf

for inter-city highways, it depends, for example, if you go south from kilometer 0 of Highway 5 (that goes from Santiago to the north, and Santiago to the south), the first toll both is aproximately in kilometer 60, but if you go north the first toll booth aproximately in kilometer 26. Also when highway 5 cuts through Santiago there's free flow toll booths with its complicated rates.

Also in some parts there's toll booths after the exit ramps.

If you take highway 68 from Viña Del Mar to downtown Santiago, this is 122km, you will have to pay up to $10.1492 USD (5,000 CLP) if you go by car, prices vary depending on the day and time of the day..

Chile has 2.500 kilometres of high standard highways, according to the CIA Factbook.....that's a lot if you compare it with for example Argentina, with 730 acoording to the same source. I will try to find a map of such an extense net.

It's pretty clear that you're not in the "I Love Chile" club...but don't make it so obvious please.

And what's so wrong with cloverleafs?? They're in all the countries in the world who have highways.

Oh come on, just read my other posts in this thread. We have world class highways now, the highway services teams are amazing (personal experience, i was involved in a crash with 2 other vehicles, in minutes a rescue team was with us, and a highway cleansing team removed all the car parts and traffic was flowing again in short time) and pavement quality is really good.

However:

Cloverleaves are dangerous and handle badly heavy traffic and there's better ways, although more expensive ways of making interchanges.

Cloverleaves fit just fine in most of Chile, but they've been abused, and aren't suitable in many sections of our urban expressways.

Also the interchange of Highway 5 and Costanera Norte is a disaster. I really don't know what were the engineers thinking when they planned it.
The interchange of Estoril and Costanera Norte is really dangerous too.

We need stack interchanges as soon as possible.

Beautiful freeways. I never thought that Chili had beautiful freeways like this. They look very European. If you say that these pictures was taken in the soutern region of Andalucia I would believe you to. Hopefully I visit Chili once.
