The courtyard is for the cafés/coffee shops same as Queens Court at the corner of Moncur and Queen streets in Woollahra which has been working successfully for years.

Found this on the Woods Bagot site for Zetland:

The site at Joynton Avenue is unique and is surrounded by vast Morton Bay fig trees, park lands and a growing residential precinct. The development is sub-divided into a series of parts forming residential precincts arranged around primary open spaces. The masterplan DA comprises 550 units.

Muse, I checked it out and had a good look at the montage image: the site is...I think...1-13 Joynton, cnr O'Dea. There was a project designed by Stanisic involving a 13 storey tower on O'Dea dropping down to 4 storeys at Mary O'Brien reserve (a new laneway from Merton St to Joynton planned to separate them in line with Morris Grove) but the developer has opted for an "architecturally inspired" (sic) renovation of the existing buildings, now complete and functioning as offices.
As there was no date indicated on the Woods Bagot site it is hard to tell whether the design is recent or not. It is quite a knockout so I wouldn't object to it at all if it were a valid option.

big news!
A heritage accessment has just been given to the chimney and associated bldgs recomending they be saved from demolition. Has anyone ever noticed the grassy knoll as part of the site?. very cute.
Word is they will be because locals are starting to realise it a much loved landmark and actually pinpoints the town centre.!
The council couldnt believe the site was recomended for demolishment WITHOUT it being assessed for potential heritage bldgs?? 5 years ago.
This will throw previous plans for that square out and a new draft will have to be drawn to accomodate the inclusion of council incinerator.
Ive always felt the site should be a cutlural arts /community centre with a nice town square in front which addresses the future intersection more appropriately.
long live the chimney!!!

this corner now will have the new town square!!

I don't know that that awful grey slab of a building should be retained frankly. (or isn't that a part of the incinerator?)

It's a) in terrible condition
and b) it's plain ugly to start with!

Although the chimney isn't the prettiest one around, I could easily see it looking good with a rejuvenation and cleanup.

The concrete monster however is unforgivable.

Well it was a rubbish incinerator that was built in 1972 .. so at the time it was only 30 years old.

LIVE LANES

City launches art at Albion Lane

Albion Lane in the southern heart of the CBD has been transformed into an open air art gallery as part of the City of Sydney's sixth annual Art & About festival from 2 - 21 October.

Albion Lane Gallery between George and Kent Streets, features 30 works created by emerging and established local artists, and will be accessible to the public 24-hours a day during the arts festival.
between George and Kent Streets, features 30 works created by emerging and established local artists, and will be accessible to the public 24-hours a day during the arts festival.

Located near the George Street cinemas the grey concrete walls have been painted to reflect the vibrancy of the area, and the works, titled Windows to Imaginary Places, are a diverse collection of paintings, drawings, photography, textiles and sculptures.

Curated by Alasdair Nicol and Michelle McCosker of Reef Knot, the walls of Albion Lane host a visual arts display, allowing Sydneysiders the unique opportunity to step out of the City and into the fresh realms of Sydney's creative world.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said the Albion Lane Gallery, together with work in Temperance Lane and Bulletin Place during the Art and About Festival, demonstrates the City's commitment to bring life to Sydney's lanes

"The transformation of Albion Lane for Art & About is one idea demonstrating what can be done to our laneways to enhance City living," Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said.

"We are committed to revitalising our laneways in partnership with the business and art communities, and as part of our Sustainable Sydney 2030 vision."

In addition to Albion Lane, the City is encouraging Sydneysiders to visit Temperance Lane and Bulletin Place:

* Temperance Lane (off George Street, between Market and King Streets) has been reinvigorated with a LED lighting system to create a multi-coloured kaleidoscope.
* Bulletin Place near Circular Quay will become an outdoor lounge bar for five nights during Art & About, with free live bands and DJs. Operating hours are 6pm - midnight on 6, 10, 11, 12 and 13 October.

"Art & About brings art to the people to stimulate, engage and entertain. This dynamic free festival has something for everyone, whatever their taste," Ms Moore said.

"The festival brings together artists from all genres filling public spaces with creativity and celebrating the cultural life of Sydney, the cultural capital of Australia."

I've been past Albion Lane, its image has improved a little with the extra colour.Anybody been past the other lanes pictures would be great.

How did you find the approval information? I've been trying to find it on the City of Sydney web site for yonks, not specifically for this project but for any project! Clearly I failed. It's easy enough when the DA is on exhibition but finding out the approval results eludes me, so any info will gratefully received.

If you know the DA number; you can check on its state via this link;

http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/D...tByNumber.aspx

For example; I am watching how this DA for a big retail complex near the intersection of green square railway station proceeds;
If approved it would put a big shopping complex in the area.

Thank you for that: guess I'll be a busy boy for a while now.

The 296 Botany Road development isn't tall but it's an interesting one for locals and is much needed to bring some convenience and impact to that difficult site.

A few minutes later: AHA! It works! Beauty! Thanks again.

Well why not write in to the DA Officer and ask whether the chimney is being demolished and if it is is, I think it is our duty to try and save it and try and find as much heritage info/pics etc to back up the case. It would be sad if it was lost, whilst I dont believe it has much architectural merit, it is still part of Sydney industry and heritage and it should be included to remind us of the past.
