That's the one, thanks. It was a rather good refurb wasn't it. I'm sure there must be a few with architectural merit, those ones on Old Rutherglen Road had quite a bit of design on the exterior before refurbishment and for the other two demolition. You're right about economic situation but what if the council were to refurb there blocks to high standard, they would be very attractive to live in, once the mould and dampness and lack of Maintenance is reversed.

Butterfield, I think it was you who asked what Possil means, well "Possil" means "Place of rest". Just found that when checking around some web pages.

Anyway here's a pic of a block in Possil. Wish I'd went to the School in the foreground, I'd stare out the window all day.

Also found a concept sketch in colour of those ones that I posted earlier for Laurieston/Gorbals

Thanks Mr. Brightside! It was me who asked about 'Possil'. And regarding the last bit of your post, you really are one of us.

That block doesn't look typically Glasgow - more Nottingham or something.

Who is this us and of course I'm one of them whoever they are.

are you meaning the possil Block when you say it doesn't look like it from Glasgow if so there is quite a lot of them, you'd be surprised.

'bout the first bit of my post, I know that us is in fact you guys who love all things concrete, derelict, power stationy and everything else along those lines.

Also I've noticed that some people keep coming up with bits for the B in my name, I like them, makes me laugh. Keep coming up with ones if you want to.

I'm thinking of compiling a list of all the people who hang out in the various tower block threads just for my own nerdy interest. A stack of people joined at the end of last year and the beginning of this year (including yourself and schemie) but there hasn't been anyone new for a while. Maybe it's best that way.

It just looks a bit normal in that photo, not very brutal. I like my Glasgow blocks to look like they mean business.

Mr. Bo Peep approves. Just laughed very hard for about 10 mins. That was a good one Butter Boy.

If you want me to make it look like it means business I could always photoshop in a pair of muscley arms and stick them on the side of the block.

Well there has been some new people, but they don't seem to be posting very much, unlike you, me ,Schemie, Erebus, Stef, Stephen and some others.

I usually just comment on the pictures in this thread as I no nothing about tower blocks in Glasgow apart from Red Road and a few others.
I view it regularly but don't really contribute.

We've actually had some photoshopped pictures from Martin G before of two of Birmingham's blocks which house a large number of gay people (known as Dorothy Towers ) and he put these blocks carrying handbags and wearing skirts. I'd love to know where those photos have gone.

Stephen Robinson is an interesting case. I don't remember him posting in any of the tower block threads until recently, as though we've converted him somehow! He takes some great photos for us now from all round the UK.

Don't worry, just enjoy the pictures. I've had a mild obsession with Glasgow and anything Scottish for years now, but I've never actually stopped in Glasgow - just driven through on the way to other parts of Scotland. I get mixed up between all the different parts of Glasgow but it doesn't matter when the photos are so good.

Intresting case? Hmmm... sounds like my psyatric report.

I've just found my picts I took of Glasgow and Scotland in the late 90s, I'm shocked at how many have towerblocks lurking in the background! sticking up behind tombstones at the central Necropolise, but I can't seem to find my pictures I took of the Gorbals blocks. Never made it to Red Road...

Must get around to scanning them sometime...

Guess where I'm going on my hols this summer?

Sorry Stephen I was thinking out loud and wasn't expecting you to read this.

Sounds like you've got a little goldmine of photos lurking around, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing them if ever you get round to scanning them.

And where are you going on your hols? Scotland by any chance?

Scan, Scan, Scan then post, post, post, should be good to see them back in the 90's. I hope you find your pics of the Gorbals.

The cucumber is more laid back than his friends.

My mum has some Glasgow pics somewhere that she took for me from the M8 on their way to the Highlands for their 25th wedding anniversary in 1998. I wonder if it looks different on those photos now. My dad recently bought a scanner so I'll try and dig them out at some point!

a lots changed in Glasgow since the '90s. Lots of demolition. Lots of refurbishment. Lots of new stuff. i wonder if my old house in Greenfield is still there? I havent been in the Shettleston area since i was 13 and i remember there were a lot of demolition going on nearby in Cranhill and Barlanark :s

i think i'll go into town now. I found 8 blocks ive never seen before on wikimapia.org in North kelvinside that look interesting so i'll go up there.

LOL!

and the M8 hasnt changed that much in 10 years. All the blocks around there are still standing. although the 3 at Broomloan Court probably only have 18months to live. and obviously 123 Petershill Drive at Red Road is coming down soonish as well. And the two at Jura Court have been refurbed in that hideous pink colour.

I'd forgotten about that song.

It's the Sentinels that are known as Dorothy Towers. There's a number of those rainbow flags in the windows if you look closely.

I had some very strange dreams last night about entering tower blocks. I dreamt I went in one and went up to one of the upper floors and the whole floor was a giant swimming pool! The top floor was a restaurant.

Glad to know most still survive. Which are the pink ones? Glasgow's own "Dorothy Towers"??
