Update

Oak Brook-based Renaissant Development Group LLC announced this week that Park Lafayette, its 20-story twin tower condominium development on Milwaukee's east side, is on schedule and will top off around July 4. The project will have 280 condominiums and is expected to be complete in 2009. So far 83 units have been sold.

The varying window shapes on those buildings is a slick feature.

Looking Good!!

(on a side note: Does anyone remember the original Lafayette Tower? the 32 story one? I often wonder what would have happened if that was being built instead...)

I think it would have been very successful in attracting condo buyers. It would've been finished before either the KT or the UCT. Therefore, it would have caught the wave of empty-nesters and the urban professionals looking for an east side lake view. I don't recall why it never got off the drawing board?

A lot of neighborhood objection because of the height / density.. which is funny because the current project might not be higher, but I believe is denser.

Neighborhood objections over the height and density of the previous proposal had nothing to do with it never getting built. In fact, the City had approved the project despite any of those objections.

The previous developers were unable to get the money they needed in order to build it, so they had to drop their plans.

there was a lot of objection to this current plan too, including an anti-Park Lafayette website! main objections were that there wasn't enough parking. as a result, the developer added (I believe) at least one additional level of underground parking...which resulted in raising the lowest purchase price from around $180k to $220k.

If that's the case they should have made up the money by charging extra for the extra parking spaces. Its not fair to distribute the cost of an additional floor of parking among all residents, when some of them don't get an additional space.

Two, I can't thank you enough for continually posting updated construction pics. Even though I'm in Milwaukee a couple times a week, I don't always make it out to see these guys going up.
