Successful first technical trial on Algiers tramway
ALGIERS – The first technical trial of the Algiers tramway has been carried out Saturday at the Algiers Bordj El Kiffan section, over a distance of nearly two kilometres, under the applause of a crowd. Minister of Transport Amar Tou, who attended the trial, said he was "confident of seeing the project completed on time, as work is advancing at a good pace." Rallied along the docks in Bordj El Kiffan, the citizens, delighted, were discovering for the first time the blue-and white-painted trains are of Algiers tramway on the main avenue. Parents accompanied their children have even been invited by the Minister to board and make the return journey. The opening of this phase follows the switching on of the catenary on a section of track located on this stretch of the eastern suburbs. http://www.aps.dz/ ![]()

This appears to be more of a light rail line than a conventional tramway. Yes or no?

Actually American Light Rail systems are more closely related to suburban railways than tram lines, though they use tram equipment rather than heavier RER style trains, hence "Light Rail".
