There are national museums in every city. Liverpool has the largest collection of national museums outside of London.

Bradford certainly doesn't have a National Football Museum.

We've just added to that to because the new Museum of Liverpool is the biggest National museum to be built in a Century and its also been agreed that Liverpool will be the base for the national migration records, to be held at an International Migration Centre yet to be built, that's going to be based on New York's Ellis Island.

People still talking to themselves I see.

National Museums Liverpool are the only city/region wide museums cluster outside of the four capitals, London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast that are considered important enough to be designated "National". The Merseyside Maritime Museum, a National Museum, is consistently placed among the top five (5) maritime museums in the world. Being designated "National" is different than calling yourself so, Liverpool's museums were designated thus.

Merseyside county's museums were nationalised by the Thatcher government to stop those within Liverpool borough being monetised by Militant once the county was abolished and the proceeds of their collections being sold off to finance the building of bungalows. Liverpool has an exceptional collection of museums and art galleries but the fact they are under Whitehall's ultimate control rather than local is not anything of which to be proud. You've been told this before...

Ersatz Scousers usually emigrate then spend the rest of their lives telling everyone how wonderful the city is.

Don't know who John Bishop is or what a "meff" is so the insult is lost on me.

It was my Ma and Pa who emigrated, one (the one born in Liverpool) still speaks with a "proper Scouse accent" not the snot variety spoken along the Lancashire coast to the north of Liverpool.

Don't the people of Liverpool, at least those who inhabit this forum, claim and hold up as an accolade of sorts, the fact that Liverpool is an emigrant city? Maybe the descendants of those early immigrants into Liverpool are the ones who still had the drive for success and left the place, leaving behind the less enterprising dregs.

Maybe they do.

Maybe you should follow the advice they are giving you and go to Liverpool so you can realise how wonderful the city is for yourself, rather than having the more informed, telling you how wonderful it is...

Medi's from Bootle ffs, Tommy. He was responding to the egregious Patrick Taylor, of Hamilton, Ontario, now on his umpteenth forum identity and claiming hilariously to be his own grandson!

Orange will doubtless helpfully advise you that Bootle isn't Liverpool.

What a lovely complement, though I thought it was the poor and no future residents that had no choice but to leave.

If Peel are serious about this project then the best place to sort would be an iconic cruise liner terminal. It would generate interest in the project both locally and internationally and hopefully attract inward investment.

It would surely be more of a catalyst for development than just apartments or offices, both of which are probably not needed in Liverpool at the minute.

Can you imagine the atmosphere of the site if the terminal was built and cruises departed weekly, this could seriously extend the city centre northwards (hopefully to the Tobacco warehouse)

It was the starving Irish peasant forced off the land through the potato blight and by absentee landlords who, not wishing to take responsibility (through legislation) found it cheaper to pay for the deportation of their tenants, some of who landed in Liverpool. No sir, the poor and wretched residents of the Liverpool slums had to pay, or work, their own passage to the colonies and America. No landlords payed their passage.

PS: The lyrics of a popular sea shanty explains it;

"And now we have reached the Australia shore and the flag we fly sez scurvy
there's a quarantine law and yeh canna go ashore, till yeh reach the River Mersey"

Sometimes even working your passage didn't help.

My preference for Liverpool waters is as a financial centre.

Realise that's controversial; but let Manchester have all the state stuff. Lets have some capital! Get the Bank of England back up here...
