It will provide structural support while constructing the top part, not for the columns. As you say, the upper bridge will act as a strong bracing for the whole structure when finished. But it's a 80m long/wide bridge... I wondered how that should be built with such a cantilever.

It's called Hopson center or Hopson tower.

what I don't like from that angle is how the Jin mao obscures SWFC, especially when it's not fully topped out or completed externally, it looks like one big messy building with one side incomplete.

I can't wait until it tops out!

I'm finding that Shanghai's skyline is only pleasing at certain angles. Like around the North Bund and from anywhere directly in front of People's Square. Other than those two areas... the orientation of the buildings are not exactly harmonious.

I agree with some angles not being harmonious. I love this certain picture but the Pudong area seems to have alot of "bald spots" where I think skyscrapers should be placed. I'm used to skylines like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and even Houston where the downtown area is filled to the brim with development.

Thanks for the answers Skymyhusband.

I think they will construct the top by building from both sides and connecting in the middle. I can't imagine building from one side. A cantilever like that would just collapse.

The temporary structure is coming along pretty well. Nice picture.

You must have a stomach or nerves of steel to trust walking on that bamboo.

Yes, but it's not 450m above ground, 7-8 meters max only above floor 96!

This picture shows the impressive bracing needed for the top bridge:

Sure, just one small detail about bamboo scafolding. Some tests were carried out to compare steel vs bamboo scafolding, bamboo resisted better in windy conditions due to a better bending abality compared to steel scafolding that collapsed during a typhoon somewhere in Asia.

Back to the tower...

Nice speed on this one. Should reach the final height somewhere in september? It will look gorgeus when completed and completely cladded
