I'm used to skylines like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and even Houston where the downtown area is filled to the brim with development.

It's these 'bald spots' that are why I love Pudong so much. Keep in mind that effectively 100% of what you are looking at on the Pudong side didn't exist ~20years ago. I'm so glad that instead of putting wall-to-wall buildings all over the place or a Manhattan-type preplanned pattern with 2 axis there's a great sense of green space & large boulevards in Pudong. It's great to look at from the ground & also from inside the buildings.
I wish I could dig up a suitable Pudong photo between 1970-1980...even a pre-1994 TV tower photo would be cool. It's just amazing to think of the difference in the last 25 years.

Oh - for those who complain about Shanghai's pollution I won't defend it in great detail because I don't live there and I know it does have pollution (like any other 10million+ international city) but keep in mind that it's at the Delta of the world's 3rd largest river & June-September are seasonally very rainy and hot which leads to a lot of fog. I'm not saying that there's no pollution and it's only fog, but please don't turn it into a 'look at all the pollution, they're destroying the world' based on a foggy picture of Shanghai from the summer.

Sears has an elevator shaft that is only for the observation floor, it go's from the bottom all the way to the top.

This thing has progressed so much since I last saw it. The view from the top will be magnificant. All the cars and buses etc will look tiny from the observation deck.

You probably did since when you go that high the weight of the lift cable would be so great youd need a stupidly large system to lift it.

I've been up the Empire State Building, and to get to the 102nd floor Observation Deck you have to go via to 80th floor, then take another lift to the 86th, than another one to the 102nd.

Yes, not so much to build there... I guess next will be one more level on the central temporary structure (attached to the columns), then rising of the columns at level 100 (inner top of the aperture).

After that, I don't know if the central bracing will reach level 101 in order to build the top bracing first... for sure, the columns must be finished for that (level 101)!

Wait and see...

Great update, thanks a lot!

Columns are now at level 99, inner top of the hole is at level 100 floor. So one (big) level more before top horizontal part.
