is anyone aware of how it was decided which direction the 'hole' would face? do you think there would have been a greater visual impact had this 'hole' faced the bund straight on?

The wind probably, wasn't the hole supposed to lessen wind resistance?

The hole, previously designed round, is oriented facing the Pearl tower to give it a response; that's why all the pics taken from the 370m observatory on top of the Pearl Tower always gives a perfect frontal view



It's obviously less responsive with the square aperture.

WOW! I never realized that Shanghai looks like that. Before, I thought Pudong and its surroundings are the only area with highrises. It looks like NYC imo.

A general misconception. Pudong and Lujiazui is a small fraction of the ocean of skyscraper that is Shanghai.
New York is actually dwarfed by Shanghai...
