The future? More like a pastiche of all the 1984 cliches. With the exception of several of the more prominent buildings in Pudong, Shanghai (and really the "People's Republic" as a whole, of course excluding the actual supertalls [e.g. Hong Kong!!]) lacks character in its architecture. They just throw up commie block after commie block. It's really a depressing sight to see -- really in stark contrast to the creative and brilliant design of almost every single building constructed in places like downtown Dubai, or downtown Chicago. And even outside their downtowns the buildings are still respectable.

Not nearly as unnecessary as yours.
Every statement deserves context. That's what I was trying to provide. Also being from Shanghai I would imagine you're at least somewhat biased. Not that I can blame you, and I presume you grew up in the PRC from birth?

Don't get me wrong -- I LOVE this building! But Shanghai as a whole just makes me hang my head in sorrow for all the wasted potential. An entire skyline that could have looked absolutely dynamite in the hands of a free market has instead evolved into but a few small pockets of gems mixed in with, quite frankly, a bunch of crap!

I believe we're here to discuss the SWFC, and not the free market system, or political issues.
Now, let's all have a and get back to the tower.

Ah, there's the rub. In fact it's not entirely completed just yet, now is it? It looks like they might have about 15 more feet to go, no?

Yes, but not so much to do there.

Here's the view of an old flat city, 19th century designed, with only one skyscraper (210m high ).

Ah yes, it's very different from NY, chicago or Shanghai isn't it?

We can say that the basic structure of the building is topped out.

No night activity noticeable on the webcam view, lights are shut down on top.
