That picture is of Shanghai. I have visited the city, and there is definitely still hope at this point, but the government just keeps building more highways. It's really sad -- China still has a chance to avoid America's mistakes, but everybody wants to make the same mistakes over again.

Authoritarian government isn't tyranny, but it's in a better position to guide its people when the people don't know what's best for themselves. The people think cars are a status symbol, and don't realize the terrible cost to society in the long term, so it's government's job to help them.

A good read: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl.../MNV8RIVTQ.DTL
Sorry, the article's all English, I don't know Chinese.
Agree totally, the trend is really worrying, the developed nowdays have become more and more auto-orientated and american like.

In addition, the process of erosion from automobiles is a POSITIVE FEED BACK which means its action will intensify the conditions for the next action, therefore as it progress, it will be more and more unrealistic to reduce the dependency on automobiles, like a drug. precisely.

You'd think the government can just stop it when it gets enough, but they can't, it's not like a switch you can just turn on and off, the erosion will get faster and faster.

That you would let a government make the important decisions in your life is disgusting to me.

Why are we even talking about this? This thread is supposed to be for SWFC now politics. Please let us stop talking about global warming/tyrannical governments/cars.

is the bottom of the tower already occupied? the lights are on like it is. I have seen where they finish out the bottom part so the tenant, usually a hotel, can open and they conitnue on the remainder of the building.

I'd guess that would be harder to do, a restaurant needs kitchen space nearby where as a bar doesnt.

That night pic with SWFC looming over Jin Mao seems so unreal, yet obviously is.

the cladding contractor for this tower is the same with ICC. the schedule completion was dec 2007 . the damaged caused by the fire incident will take 3 months to repair + the damage due the lifting incident has yet to be repaired as there are serious damage done on the system. this is a unitized curtain wall system and that means the obvious method of replacing a unit is to take out all the units above it. and thats not practical since last time (2mons ago i think), to do that they have to take down 900 units. until now they havent come up with a viable solution.
apparently skybridge would be completely cladded middle next year.
piccie. more to come later dudes
