pudong is only one of shanghai's CBD.. there are a lot more CBDs in shanghai, the pic above shows anothers one, there is a good density in the other side of Pudong (Puxi)

anyway lets get back to swfc

You know what ZZ-II I really wouldn't doubt it. Who knows maybe in five or even tens years from now Pudong may be a bit taller and denser.

Oh really? I doubt NY is more dense than shanghai if the NY you are talking about includes not just manhatten.

having a good density is certainly nice, but shanghai should develop its own style, with greens surrounding the buildings rather cramming those buildings together and suffocating people to death. They should just get rid of ugly and short buildings in pudong and start building some supertalls there!

Actually I used to think Pudong was bad because of its lack of density, but now that I think about it, Puxi CBD should be compared with NYC or Hong Kong because of its potential for dense sea of ~200m offices (sad to say that right now, most of the density comes from residentials, but in time when Shanghai becomes more important financially, hopefully that will change).

Pudong Lujiazui on the other hand, resembles a Shinjuku type CBD where there are massive but not so dense offices. If you notice, Shinjuku has plenty of green and space between their towers too. The difference is, Lujiazui has a number of horribly hideous monstrosities built in the mid-90's. New buildings going up are quite sleek and beautiful though, so lets just hope they keep it that way for the eastward extension and remaining plots

This is not Shanghai v. New York -- We're here to discuss SWFC.

It would be great of you'd mention the photographer's name (in this case, my name) when you post pictures.
The density photo on the page before this is mine as well, but that's more ok since my name is watermarked.

Puxi doesnt lack density, it lacks diversity!! Very dense pack buildings and lots of green will only turn to ghost town if they are all office buildings. Mix use ensure that those public space is constantly used and not only during rush hours.
