Yeah, construction of the hole is going to be some wild, wild schidtt! Luckily the angle I usually post is the view outside my window, so I'll have front row seating for the show. Can't wait.

It looks like we are going to see some load transfer structural going on here, the floor clearence is much higher, for mechanicals, but the two "struts" to support the observation deck should be starting in this area, with the core termination as well.

I'm sorry if this has been answered, but when will they start to build the third big skyscraper on that plot?

The construction on the next skyscraper will start in 3..4 years..it depends on the other projects arownd the globe...the third one might be redrow...due to the much taller skysrapers comming on the globe...this one might be between 700m to 900 m tall

According to a lecture given by William Pedersen of KPF and which I attended about 6 years ago, the circular opening atop the tower was changed to rectangular due to political sensitivities. It turned out the original circular opening was intended to play homage to the traditional Chinese Moon Gate. However, it was interpreted as an Imperial Japanese Sun. That symbolism did not sit well with local authorities and at the time of the lecture it was bein still discussed as well as other financin issues. Six years later, no Moon Gate
Yea, I remember watching a documentary about the tower's design process and the gov't did make them change it. Too bad, the observation deck would've been really cool.

I remember the old rendering of that tower had a circular hole in it and they changed it to square hole, I dunno why but I preferred the round one. its one of my favorite supertall.

Yeah, it used to be a round hole a few years ago. I liked the round hole, but i like the square just as much.

If you look at the high res picture, there are some McDonalds arches just to the left of the ship.

I didn't realise how amazing the Shanghai skyline was until now! I love this tower and it's design, and think the cladding looks great!

The pic was taken with the EOS 400D

I think the SWFC will have the best observation deck in the world.
