You mean skyscraper boom? It depends on how you count. Including residentials, Hong Kong has no rival. Including office highrises only, Shanghai is building more and taller. Shanghai ranks fourth city worldwide with most office space u/c after Moscow, Dubai and Beijing, btw. On the other hand, Shanghai is building one only supertall at this moment. Meanwhile, HK is constructing 3.

Anyway, your personal ranking would change a lot if you count 200m+ or 300m+ only. The amount of 200m+ released in these two cities in the last 12 months lags behind Chongqing, Tianjin and maybe Guangzhou and Shenzhen. All of these cities have released many, many 200m+ projects and several 300m+ in the last 12 months. Chongqing has at least 34 x 200m+ skyscrapers approved or u/c (6 of them are 300m+) and many others proposed... half of them were released during the last 9 months. IMO that one is China's most booming skyscrapercity at this moment

Thanks Sky. Thank goodness It's not too bad looking as its position is rather prominent viewed from the Bund.

I can't believe how much and how fast Shanghai is developing. Shanghai reminds me a little bit of New York but calling it NY is a bit of an insult if you ask me. SWFC is looking amazing I've been looking a pictures of what the tower looked like last year sround this time and you can definetly see a HUGE ammount of progress.

do u really understand the real status of shanghai in china?
in the passed 10 years, shanghai's development is almost the slowest among the big 10 cities in china.
also people in shanghai today have to admit that to be an international financial center just is a dream, and the central goverment also never support this.

With the lights out and all that fog, it looks like a spooky giant black monolith.

Shanghai will start developing again once Jiang Ze Min's people are outta their offices.

What the hell, who told you that Shanghai's development has been the slowest in China?

When Jiang Zemin became chairman of CCP/President of PRC, the first thing he did was bring his 'Shanghai Clique' mates to the Central Govt and make Pudong a 'Special Economic Zone' and put it the centre of growth. This has so far continued when Chen Liangyu became Shanghai Party Chief (now in Jail)

But Since Hu Jintao came to office, his hate for the Rich people/cities of China, e.g. Shanghai/Shenzhen/Guangzhou etc means that he has since tried to cap the development of Shanghai and focus more on Beijing/Tianjin.

Shanghai's status and growth is atm being played down/downgraded by Chairman Hu..
