what does this mean?
today's Christian Science Monitor reports:

Quote:
In Shanghai, long-delayed plans to build a World Financial Center are underway again – this time, for a structure 100 feet higher than originally conceived. Perhaps coincidentally, but almost certainly not, that extension will make the new building slightly taller than Taipei 101

as ive said before, even if the architects put on 2 small spires on roof like ears, only 18m high would give the title at 510m. even if it is for a short time. doesnt matter. it will always beknown as worlds tallest building on compeltion and into record books forever!

Original - and long time delayed - design of SWFC was 460m, extended to 492m.

32m are ~100 feet.

Great idea Culwulla.

Even if they are just plain steel blades ontop of the building I'd be happy. Just something to give the roof a bit of oompf if you get what I mean.

If they did that SWFC, what with the rectangle hole in it and all, will look like a kitten's head. No thanks.

You have a refuge floor every 12 levels, with reinforced bracing, openings for (natural) air ventilation (in case of fire or big smoke), direct access to lifts when usable, etc.
Each refuge floor has direct access to the lifts in the corners, possibly bringing people down very fast when in use.

People can rest in refuge floor several hours waiting for external help.

You can reach them with stairs for only 5 or 6 levels up or down.

It would be ridiculous if they put extra antennae or spires on top of SWFC, it wouldn't fit at all. This building has been perfectly designed the way it is. Why should they make the building ugly just to beat some silly height record?

Skyscrapers aren't just about height, they're about good architecture, and the current SWFC design is brilliant architecture.
