SWFC is great as it is - no antennas, no spires Maybe they could put up the spire to take the worlds tallest title, and dismantle it next year when Burj Dubai passes it. That wouldn`t be bad

Don't be silly. The height of this thing has never been secret. There is no reason AT ALL to think that there has ever been any plans to deviate from the design.

There you have it then. If they are not approved, they are not approved.

It's the same thing I constantly hear in the Chicago Spire thread "Oh I'll bet they'll wait until the last second and sneak a spire on." That's simply not the way things work.

"Mori Building Corporation actually proposed to raise the building up to 510m so it could surpass Taipei 101's 508m as the world's No. 1 skyscraper, but this was declined by local authorities in Shanghai saying the city has a limit to building heights and an overall consideration of the skylines on both sides of the Huangpu River."

i think yourve missed my point. yes the new design is brilliant. no doubt.
the SWFC was supposed to be the worlds tallest building originally at 460m about a decade ago. but it was shelved for a short time and by the time it got back on track others were planned higher, even though its height had increased by 32m to 492m. i dont think twin 18m spires would detract from its overall design. woulnt even notive them actually. i just think its almost 500m high, so close to becoming a WTB. seems a shame to miss out by such a small margin.
anyway. back to the grind.

oh come on, they should just put a 20 m high spire on top to hold the wtb title for a little while. I rather prefere this building than Taipei 101 to be the wtb.

It's looking great... it's amazing how well it blends with the rest of the skyline.

Shanghai looks like a hypercity or somethin..
the cladding's understated, but that goes together
wit the simple roof design.
nice updates

It will be much better when finished, it's indeed very disgracious with the scaffolding on the top, it prevents appreciating the smooth curve of the building.

News Flash:

Construction of the hole has begun! I'm sure Giallo will be along shortly with the incriminating shots.
