I think the most we would ever need long-term would be Sea-Tac and Paine Field becoming about the size of Oakland airport. Also, there are long-term plans for huge terminal expansions at Sea-Tac too, right? So we'll really never need to build another airport. Although that mag-lev train to Moses Lake did sound pretty cool...
Lol, I think it'll be years before Paine Field has more than 1-2 million passengers per year, if that.

Sea-Tac has a whole lot of room to expand. Alaska is currently planning on expanding the North Terminal, adding a couple jetways, and completely remodeling the inside (plus adding a Boardroom on the top, with direct views of Mt. Rainer). In addition, there are plans in place to eventually extend the terminal even further.

Domestic capacity is quite sated right now, it's the international terminal that needs to be expanded asap (of which there are plans to do so too).

I suggested years ago moving all the commuters to BFI and constructing a light-rail connection to SEA, effectively operating the two as one airport. The distance would be no more than few minutes more than the present shuttle. This will never happen, however, as BFI will retain its "special" status pretty much forever.

I can't get enough of this kind of video:

Millions of us check luggage at SeaTac Airport every year. But what happens to those bags once we leave the ticket counter and head for the gates? The answer, it turns out, is a long and winding path on part of a conveyor belt system that totals 9.3 miles.

There is going to be way too much capacity - even for the summer - between Seattle and Tokyo, especially when factoring in Delta's Haneda route as well.

Haneda has only been tentatively approved by the DOT.

True, but I don't see any reason why they would revoke the approval. Though, I almost hope they do.

Not directly tied to Sea-Tac, but man...that new livery looks terrible and reminds me of Cubana's.

Like the new logo, but the flag on the tail is a bit gaudy. I'd almost rather they incorporated the new eagle logo on the tail instead.

I truly didn't even see the eagle until I watched the video a few minutes later. I thought it was an "A" with the left leg of the letter ripped off and the middle bar kind of curling up.

I've always maintained that "rebranding" is the last refuge of inept management - at last a project they can run (oh .. and get me some proposals on changing those drapes) in which they aren't seen as completely clueless. (btdt)

Actually that article is incorrect, the new service starts on Jun. 1st. Same day Delta will be operating the 747-400 on SEA-NRT since NWA operated that route. This summer will be nonrev's dream.

Sea-Tac also set a new record in 2012 for most passengers in a year: 33.2 million.

http://www.airlinereporter.com/2013/...o-paine-field/ Earlier Alaska was making it sound like if they started any service at all at Paine Field it would be very limited, but looks like they're saying "Just kidding!" Starting with 35 roundtrip flights per week, including seven to Hawaii, seven to Vegas, and 21 to Portland, then going up to 49 per week with additional flights to LA, Phoenix, and San Diego. I wonder why the Bay Area's not in these plans, SFO is currently the biggest destination from Sea-Tac so you'd think demand for flights to there from Paine would also be high.

A lot of these markets that Alaska is entering (other than Portland) are markets that Allegiant plans to start service in, so this schedule is a pre-emptive strike. I doubt they'll be able to fly to too many places, as there is only a mobile terminal.

I think eventually there will be a daily flight to Honolulu, with an additional 3/4 weekly flights to Kona/Maui. Also, a daily flight to LA, Las Vegas, and San Francisco (Maybe Phoenix too).
