Or, even more intriguing, is a brand new International terminal in the north cargo area. LAX and O'Hare are two examples of airports that have built seperate international terminals. This probably makes the most sense of all the options.
That would be amazing!! If you could move United from the north satelite to the south satelite, then Alaska could fill in the north satelite... Then you could build a new international terminal... I have a feeling we will be seing a lot more international flights and carriers within the next year or so as a result of the Vancouver winter olympics...

And poker players, Sea-Tac has a "tell"

Notice that the new Sea-Tac control tower has been built well north of the main terminal. True, a control tower doesn't necessarily need to be next to the terminal, but this is obviously where future concourse gates will be built.
Sea-Tac. I call!!!

The Vancouver Olympics are short-term. New permanent routes for Seattle will be due to our airport and regional fundamentals.

The current POS plan for a new satellite terminal is the site currently used for Delta Cargo, GSE Storage, and the firefighting facility, which seems to be around the new tower. While Sea-Tac plans five major terminal expansions from now to 2020, a new satellite is in the plan but a lower priority and not scheduled. Quite a bit of new capacity is planned: http://www.portseattle.org/seatac/construction/

Interesting... I really hope they follow through on those plans because I really feel that SeaTac is too small...

you know what I just found out... Apparently back in 2003, Lufthansa wanted to add a new city in the Pacific Northwest. So of coarse Seattle had a much better advantage because of its international population and big buisness... but Lufthansa chose Portland because the port of seattle was charging to much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That really makes me mad!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, PDX has lost a lot of International traffic in the past half decade...I can see why they are trying to undercut Sea-Tac. But no worries, Sea-Tac is doing quite well with International traffic, and a new International terminal would help even more. Plus, if Sea-Tac sees a trend of airlines choosing PDX, they'll reduce their cost. Simple business 101!

BTW, the third runway at SEA is on course and will open within two years. It took awhile, but glad to see this project come to fruition.

Well, that was not the main reason. Basically, Portland offered a whole bunch of incentives for Lufthansa to start service to Portland instead and it worked. Same goes for the Mexicana flight, they were initially looking at expanding to Seattle not Portland.

Air France is starting service to Seattle with airbus A330-200 aircraft. We already see them from Northwest on services from Seattle to Tokyo and Amsterdam.

Ok, we are actually getting much more new service this year. Here is what I can come up with off the top of my head.

Air France to Paris

Air Tran to Baltimore (The Atlanta flight was here last year too)

American to Austin

Horizon to Santa Rosa and Sonoma

Northwest is increasing their Seattle Tokyo flight from 7 times weekly to 9 times weekly this summer (1 flight on 5 days and 2 on the other 2.)

Midwest to Kansas City and Milwakee

Hawaiian is increasing their Seattle to Kahalui service from 3 time weekly to daily. They are also increasing their Seattle to Honolulu service from daily to double daily.

Air Canada is adding twice daily service to Calgary

US Airway's Pittsburgh flight is returning

Alaska has increased frequencies on their Seattle to Boston flight

Southwest has added additional frequencies to Chicago Midway

Northwest is bringing back their flight to Indianapolis this summer

Ugh, another one Frontier is increasing their service from 4 to 5 times daily in June to Denver

What a great year so far!

And for those of you wondering if Aeroflot will come back, all I know is that when they had to pull out of Seattle they said they would probably be back in 2007 or 2008 so we will have to wait and see.

Edit: Forgot one

Thanks for the update! It is so good to see a healthy Sea-Tac. (I remember walking through the terminal in the early 80's and it just seemed so empty!, of course the local economy was in the dumps back then) Whoever has been leading this airport for the past couple decades has done a great job. I applaud the aggressive growth pursued by the Port.

I believe they SUSPENDED it (Not cancel ) because the flight never really made a profit for them. When they left they did say that they hoped to be able to come back. If they do, I hope they can make it work!

Also, there has been a rumor floating around for years that ANA will start service from Nagoya to Seattle when they get their 787s. However, there hasn't been much about this recently. Also, PAL (An airline in the Philippines) has stated that they want to start service to Seattle and San Diego. However, I don't know whether this will ever happen or not...

Yeah I wrote an email to Lufthansa asking them to consider starting service to Seattle and they gave this bs answer and said we dont have any plans for new cities at this point... owell screw them.

I also wrote a letter to Aer Lingus asking them to consider a Dublin-Seattle flight and they wrote back and said that it was a very strong possibility, they have been looking into the seattle area. Just with in the last week Aer Lingus has announced new service to San Francisco, Orlando, and Washington DC. So I think theres gonna be a good chance we get them!!!!

Also I heard BA might increase its 10 weekly flights to 2 daily between Seattle and London!!!

Yup, Seattle is one of Aer Lingus' cities in North America that they consider being capable of sustaining service to Ireland. Also, BMI said awhile ago that as soon as they could fly out of Heathrow, one of their first cities they were looking into was Seattle. BA's 10 weekly 747s in the summer go out full every day. United used to serve Seattle to Heathrow but they dropped it when they downsized Seattle.
