Apparently there is a rumor going around in Lufthansa that Frankfurt - Seattle will be started soon, I have no idea what aircraft they might be planning to use though.

WHAT!!!!! where did you hear that?!?!
That is so cool!!! I know they serve Portland but maybe its not making them any money... They probably also realize that theyre losing competition with Air France, British Airways, SAS, and KLM/Northwest all serving Seattle. |

these pop up often on airliners.net but usually they are not this specific... the rumor that Air France was going to start Seattle - Paris was floating around there for awhile... |

okay I have a few questions
1.) Apparently the forumers on airliners.net say that the Seattle-Copenhagen on SAS is the most profitable route for SAS(international) but its still not profitable enough, does anyone know any details about this turmoil?? 2.)Also If Lufthansa was to start service to Seattle that would definatly hurt the PDX flight right?? |

Answer to 1:
Apparently SAS's whole long-haul network is a money loser, that was announced a couple months ago. If it was restructured or flights were cut, the Seattle flight would be one of the last to go. It has been here for over 40 years. Answer to 2: Not necessarily, Lufthansa's PDX-FRA flight is the only flight to Europe from Portland. They might see a slight dip in loads but it isn't going anywhere. Many of the large businesses in the Portland area have deals with Lufthansa seeing as they are the only carrier flying to Europe from Portland. |

Do you guys think that Seattle has a big enough market to sustain 6 daily flights to Europe if Lufthansa was to begin service to SeaTac??

Right now we have 31 weekly frequencies to Europe. Assuming LH's service would be daily that would make it 38 weekly frequencies, not quite 6x daily. To keep it simple, yes, I believe Seattle can support more frequencies to Europe. The current flights we have go out packed.

They think that LH will add Seattle and then drop Vancouver after the Olympics. Interesting stuff... |

Lost airlines
Nice to see some new airlines serving Seattle-Tacoma. But I can think of three who quit serving Sea-Tac: Japan Airlines, Finnair, and Mexicana. I'd love to see JAL and Finnair back here.

Guiness: Finnair flew non-stop to Helsinki. I took the flight myself in 1984. It must have been a couple of years or so after that that they quit Sea-Tac. As for JAL, some old timer might remember exactly when they stopped. When I arrived in the area in the mid-1970's they were flying non-stop to Tokyo.

![]() That was so cool when we had that Seattle-Moscow flight. I also know they made good money with it too, but had to stop for some reason. |

JAL stopped after 9/11 I think. That took us from three Tokyo flights per day down to two.

-JAL, I'm pretty sure stopped before 2000, since NW was taking over the Seattle-Tokyo market.
