The new routes are great, but I always regret the losses. Copenhagen, Helsinki, Mexico City, Vladivostok are four that come to mind.

I think was an obvious and useful addition, but I'm skeptical about switching MIA for FLL. Unless AA is adding SEA-MIA it doesn't make the most sense. MIA and FLL are two completely different markets. FLL is a more tourist/vacationer airport while MIA is strongly connected with business travelers. I think AS will see a big decrease in the amount F seats sold for this segment. A vacationer traveling to the resorts/beaches around FLL is a lot more price sensitive compared to the vacationers going to the posh resorts around Miami. I always read that SEA-MIA F cabin was completely sold even into the summer, and I fear they will not get these same results with FLL.

Saw this today....

Hainan SEA-PEK Nonstops Go to Daily Beginning June 8

Almost four years to the day it began service to Seattle, Hainan Airlines has announced it will increase frequency to daily on June 8, offering nearly 1500 seats each way per week. Currently the airline serves the market four times a week, and will increase service to five times on May 15. The daily service will continue throughout the peak summer season, until the winter schedule takes effect in November. Current service is operated with two-class Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Hainan Airlines is also one of the launch customers for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Hainan Airlines is a Skytrax certified five-star airline recognized for providing outstanding service in both its Premium Business class and Economy Class, with departures from Seattle at 2:00pm, arriving in Beijing at 4:00pm. Connections can be made to Shanghai, Guangzhou and other points in China plus Mongolia, Eastern Russia and elsewhere in Asia. The airline also operates numerous flights between the island of Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland.

“Our customers have been asking for more frequency for a long time”, said Joel Chusid, Managing Director for Hainan Airlines in North America, “So we’re pleased to be able to accommodate their request. This provides both our loyal, regular customers as well as infrequent travelers with increased flexibility in being able to travel any day of the week. We hope that people who have not flown us before will give us a try to experience our five-star service. Cargo shippers will also benefit from the added frequency.”

Cool... but will this make it less likely that they'll start service to Shanghai?

Where did you hear that? On Anet they are saying that it isn't doing too well in bookings so far.

$20,000 round trip in 1st class... I wish I was that loaded. And most of all cute stewardesses... Sometimes I wish I was around for the golden age of jet travel just for that.

Considering Emirates origins, do they allow drinking on their planes?

Just in case anyone didn't see it, here's a link to travel writer Carol Pucci's article in Sunday's Seattle Times about Air France pulling out. Nothing really new, although some online travel letter person was quoted as saying that if it wasn't for this deal, the route might have been dropped. I'm not so sure that I trust Delta to keep it anyway. All we can do is wait and see.

I can't see the route being dropped altogether. If that was the case, the only European destinations with nonstop flights to Seattle would be London, Amsterdam, Reykjavik (which isn't exactly a huge destination for tourists and those looking to continue their journeys further into Europe), and Frankfurt. Seems a little empty for an airport that serves such a large and important area.

Having year round service to London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Reykajavik is solid service for just about any U.S. city. Seattle, for a city and metro area its size, has a wide range of service.

Emirates has downgraded the aircraft on the Dubai-Seattle run from a 777-300 for the first few flights to a 77-200LR. So over on airlines.net have mentioned bookings have not been that strong.

New Seattle Nonstop in 2012 to..... Dalian, China???

Came across this interesting tidbit today. Not sure what it means...

China’s ninth largest by international capacity, seeking to add service to Seattle and Paris in 2H2012

I didn't realize there was such a strong tie between here and Dalian, if there is even one. This seems farfetched to me, especially since the city is easily accessible from SEA via ICN, PEK, and even NRT. We'll see PVG or HKG before any Chinese secondary city.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of the SEA master plan on their computer? Ever since the Port redid their website, I have not found it doing a Google search.

I thought the Chinese government stated either late last year or earlier this year that it was turning it's economic focus inward to build up its secondary centers.
