Well, if its a hotel (which is most likely the case) they really don't need to do any marketing.

Very interesting. I guess we'll only know the answer to the facade question until it's well under construction.

Yeah, this is a pretty good spot for a hotel, so, I think it will do fine sans-marketing.

^ I spoke to one of the workers. He told me it's a 26 storey hotel with a restaurant. No residential.

According to the renderings posted on this site, the footprint of this building appears to also occupy the SW corner of State and Huron. Yet there seems to be activity only on the lot directly south (NW corner of State and Erie). Anyone know whether the renderings we've seen are still accurate?

Yup they are accurate. Their is a parking lot currently at State and Huron SW corner so it looks like 660 occupies the whole thing but in reality their is the parking lot you just can't really see very well from the rendering.

Wow, are you sure? Look at the distance on the left. If the building stretches width-wise from that vintage rowhouse on the left to the sidewalk of State, then it HAS to extend further north and occupy that surface lot.

Besides, it makes no sense. Why would the developers buy and tear down three perfectly good old buildings when there is a parking lot right next door, the same exact size? It's a lot cheaper to rip up asphalt than to tear down existing buildings.

Maybe the developers couldnt buy the parking lot because it wasnt for sale,
it depends on what the owners these lands/buildings want to do with them,
Obviously the owner of the old building didnt want to fix it up, and wanted it razed by developers for some quick cash in return,

You have to remember its easier to destroy a building and cheaper to do so than to rehab it, and especially if you are putting up a highrise you will make more money in the short term doing that, however if you held onto said building and fixed it up, you may make more money in the long run doing that.
Just depends on your priorities.

Though sometimes you lose an irreplaceable part of history,
and maybe your soul ( hee hee ).

Its really a waste of energy and resources however to knock down a perfectly good building, especially one that big.
There are many other places where tall buildings could go up besides downtown.

Your images showing the larger context of these structures is especially helpful in appreciating their scale and location. Thanks for so many updates.

^ Nice shot. Always love to see another crane going up. What catches my eye, though, are the solar panels two doors to the west. Love to see that.
