A bored afternoon in Abilene...why not?

A random building I've never seen before. Built in 1921.

Looking north across the RR tracks.

On Cedar Street.

Lucky shot. I didn't even notice this until I loaded it onto my computer.

N 4th Street I think.

Nice. I guess no one cares.

A new restaurant. It's supposed to be really good.

That's it. Before you even say it, I'll throw it out there: I am aware of the fact that my city sucks. I have made peace with this. I do not need anyone asking me where all of the people are. I do not know. If I did, I would let you know. I can't help the fact that the trees are all half dead and the buildings are all crumbling and for sale. I am 19 years old with a camera and this is what I've got to work with. So just appreciate it from that standpoint. I hope you enjoy looking at them. It's the best I can do.

Great set of pics. I've always wondered what this city's downtown looked like. I love to amount of historic architecture still remaining.

This is outstanding work Nice to see Abilene getting some love and representation. I agree with Lakelander, the amount of historic buildings still standing is truly great. I hope that someone realizes the potential for redevelopment that DT Abilene seems to offer - judging from the photos - and bring some more investments... and a few taller buildings

I was hoping to get more comments on my photos, but my thread seems to have slipped rather rapidly. I'll go ahead and bump it up in the hopes that maybe people will notice it this time. Thanks for the comments!

Westtexan, you knocked it out the park. These are awesome.

Abilene looks great. Loved the funky statutes and murial of the tank that almost looked real when I first saw the pic.

I go there sometimes for workers comp hearings and let me tell you, you've got some lovely women there.

Texan women seem to be very attractive, at least the ones I've seen

Nice town, hopefully some work is done on it. It has some pretty attractive buildings.

Yeah it's pretty dead, but it's home. Believe it or not, Abilene is growing at a rather rapid rate these days. I appreciate the comments though, seriously. I often feel like an outsider on here because I'm not as hardcore as many of you, but I do appeciate any feedback you can give me. Thanks.

I agree about the women. Oh, my. I was actually just in Abilene yesterday, (you guys had some crazy weather). Anyway, I can definitely say the women there are gorgeous. Texas is lucky!

Nice pictures. I had planned to take pictures yesterday too, but I would have needed a boat and raincoat.

I am surprised that nobody, Especially West Texan, has mentioned that the tall building everybody is asking was recently renovated into 55 new apartments!

West Texan, how many other residential buildings does Abilene have downtown?

Congratulations, WestTexan87, on an excellent set of pictures. And it is so refreshing that a young person like yourself has pride in his home town.

I'm curious about the first shot. Is it an entertainment center of some sort -- maybe converted to bars and restaurants, or maybe a theater/arena? What happens in it?

Also, there are shots but no mention of the other tall building - the modern glass tower in the background of some pictures. What is it?

Thanks again for sharing Abilene. Wasn't it a cattle market in the old days?

Tell us about The Grace Museum.

If I'm not mistaken I believe its a 20 floor office building built in the 80's. That building is a bit south of downtown. Too bad they didn't build it closer to downtown proper.

This remind anyone else of the Carew Tower in Cincy? Maybe I'm way off.
