Just outside of Barrie, Ontario on Highway 11. Drive 1774km and you haven't even left Ontario yet..

Nice

Am I correct that the term 'Northern Ontario' is applied to pretty much any area of the Canadian Shield? So everything except the agricultural south.

Places like Thunder Bay are geographically only halfway from the southernmost to northernmost latitude in Ontario. But given the fact that there are no roads in the northern third of Ontario, I can understand that geographical 'middle Ontario' is called Northern Ontario.

Northern Ontario is basically "not Toronto or Ottawa", so essentially the whole Canadian Shield part as you note... Barrie is definitely "Northern Ontario" for example

Wikipedia begs to differ: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Ontario.
EDIT: About Barrie, I mean. But not by much....

Nice, although I don't understand this obsession with Athens (apart from being a capital) and pretending as if Thessaloniki didn't exist.

Distance Skopje-Athens is much shorter than that:

Wow, indeed. Vranje-Athens is just 765 km, not 930 (or 922).

Distance to Prague (Praha) displayed on a sign along newly constructed Augustów bypass (northeast Poland), which will open in a few days. Pretty uncommon sight, since Polish signs mostly show little villages at the border instead of foreign cities, although this practice is slowly changing E67 route ends in Prague, that's why this place is on a sign. I believe that this is the highest distance currently placed on a distance sign in Poland.

There where one longer distance in Poland than Praha - Budapest - 974km. It was on an old 7/E77 corridor in Gdansk, before the S7 expressway opening

But this banner was not actually an official road sign.

As a "response", they could also sign Cracow (if not Warsaw) on northbound M2 in Hungary.
(That would also be the first city in a non-neighbouring country signed in Hungary ....)

BTW "Budapeszt" is written in the Polish way, "Praha" in the Czech one (or is it spelled "Praha" in Polish as well?). Is there a general rule in Poland concerning the use of endo- or exonyms on road signs?

Prague is called 'Praga' in Polish. However a large part of eastern Warsaw is also called 'Praga' (Praga North and Praga South) with a quarter million people, so it's not some unknown neighborhood.

Well still, they could say "Praga (CZ)" if they had a policy of using Polish names for foreign cities.

General rule is to use endonyms.
But of course there are some examples of signage with mistakes and "Budapeszt" is one of them .
