@ Billyandmandy

Well, I'm back in Sofia now and I went to look at the station next to Sofia U. I can tell you that it looks as unfinished as a year ago.. almost. But I read in dnevnik recently that Taisei has increased their duigging speed 3 times and that the subway should be finished from Serdica to Mladost by the end of 08.

Sofia metro is one of the fastest growing in the EU but it still hasn`t got it`s own thread.

I really don`t understand what`s wrong!

It might be that because of the many bulgarians hating Sofia...

Every EU city has own subway thread!!! Look at Warsaw! It has just 16 stations and it has. Catania and Istanbul / smaller metros than Sofia`s one/ as well...

Sofia has almost finished 14 stations and there are many other proposed for that year...

What we are waiting for?? For the next Christmass???

London is the mother of all subways . it started operating in 1863 then Budapest is the first city on the continent to have one but some argue that it was Istanbul but that one is very short and i don't consider it as being a real subway . but LDN is first. the firts in the US was in Boston.

London is the mother of all the world's metro systems.

In 1863 the first tunnel was opened in the city centre.

It is the oldest and the longest in world!

414km (258m) lenght.

Wow, this Athens metro map made me feel nostalgic. For about a week I was in a hotel very close to Victoria station and used the green line each day to reach to an office located near Ano Patissia station. I used the subway for my walks to the downtown area. Syntagma station is located close to the Presidency buildings with the doves and the guards. There is a very nice garden near it too Ahhh, memories..
