Yeah Connecticut is the best but I also like Maryland. The New Mexico is very regional looking which is cool.

This was the first design of the current US Capitol. They thought it was ugly so they rebuilt it.

I'm very bias, but I like Marylands! it's a wooden dome on top and it served as US capital building when Annapolis was the Capital of the US

The only thing I do like about the the state capitol in NY is that it isn't a mini-Washington, it's a resemblence of a French Chateau.

I have been inside all of them and like the Penn capitol the best. I also like Mississippi's and Kentucky's, along with Wisonsin's and Minnesota's. I was in Boy's State in the NY building a long time ago and we used to love running the grand staircases. Alaska really doesn't have a proper capitol building, though I understand they are working on possibly moving the capital city to a more convenient location than Juneau.

Oregon looks like a fascist mausoleum. Disgusting and depressing. Perhaps Genaralissimo Franco is buried there?

I don't know why most state capitols just cannot be built in a style that represents its state.

People have taste...Connecticut's is the best here, being the richest state (per-capita) helps.

It's a freaking castle with a gold dome, what more do you want?

Even if a number of them have some slight differences, like a different colored dome, it's a still a mini-Washington in my book.

Yeah, for the most part they are classic Greek and Roman architecture. I guess it expresses freedom. Otherwise, maybe no one know how to build or design 18th or 19th Century European architecture 100 - 200 years ago (like London Parliament Building).

I can't believe Tennessee has a state capital that looks as it does >:0
I LIVE here and I never knew what it looked like until now haha.. and i've been in downtown Nashville a lot of times. I guess when I go there, i focus my attention on the Parthenon and not the Capital

Great thread! Loved looking at all the capitals.

I've only seen California and Pennsylvania's in person and they are very cool. Huge buildings for 2 of the most populous states. Hawaii's was pretty cool.

The only states that really need to build a new HQ would be New Mexico and North Dakota. Yick.

It is a real shame that so many of them look exactly the same. Kudos to Hawaii for being different

I didn't realize that so many states went with the dome look. I'm glad Delaware is different.

They're all freakin' fantastic! (maybe New Mexico and Alaska need some work done...like a complete redesign).

I find it to make sense how all are made to look striking. The architecture is embodiment of power in the capital buildings.

BTW: Louisiana's state capitol was amazing in All the King's Men with Sean Penn.
