Interesting pictures! I'm particularly interested in the third picture with the railway station captioned 漢口,大智門東站. When was it constructed? Does it still exist (which I strongly doubt)? Does anybody have more information on this railway station?

The construction project of the new railway station in Hankow was started in 1989,and was completed and open to the public in 1991.From then on,the building was no longer used as a railway station. As it is an important historical building of the national levels,it is carefully preserved till now. The recent photo of the old station [IMG] [/IMG]Now,Wuhan is one of the few cities(just Beijing,Canton,Shanghai&Wuhan) in China that have 3 national level railway stations. Wuhan Station(For the Peking-Canton express-railway) is now under construction. It will be completed by the end of 2008. [IMG] [/IMG]Hankow Station, the transformation of the station will also be completed by the end of 2008. The style of the architecture will follow the old station. [IMG] [/IMG]Wuchang Station, the Environmental Amelioration Project of the station is mostly completed,it will be open to the public later this year. [IMG] [/IMG]

The *** railway stations currently being built in China are extremely impressive. I think it's good that so much priority has been given to the development of the railway instead of just domestic flights.
I'm actually surprised that only Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Wuhan have national level railway stations. What about places like Chongqing (since it's such a big ****) and Kunming (because it has international rail connections)?

Some of China's metropolises such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Xi'an are all within a circle around the center of Wuhan with the radius of 1000km. Wuhan is the important strategic supporting point of Central China. Wuhan is one of traffic hubs in China. Its capacity of communications at home and to foreign countries is among the top list of China’s metropolises. Its arterial highways extend in all directions. Its ******** has formed the external cycle, middle cycle and internal cycle of fast lanes. Four arterial railways such as Jing-Guang, Jing-Jiu, Wu-Da and Han-Dan intersect in Wuhan, from which you may reach 25 provincial capitals in China by railway.

Ah, thanks for that, sorry I misunderstood you. I must say, I'm very impressed with China's railway infrastructure.

Its a nice looking city but . . .
I will not compare it to Chicago. But if you want to compare East vs West then imo, Chicago is comparable to Shanghai and Hong Kong is to New York. The most similar city comparable to Wuhan is maybe "Houston" but thats just my opinion.

lol have you ever been to Houston? I've lived here for 17 years and have also been to Wuhan and I can tell you the two cities are nothing alike no matter what aspects you compare with, be it skyline, population, city density, culture... etc.

Wuhan is just Wuhan
Wuhan or Taipei???!!!
[IMG] [/IMG]Wuhan & HK [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]Wuhan or Europe???!!! [IMG] [/IMG]Wuhan or Japan???!!! [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]Wuhan or Suzhou-Hangzhou(蘇杭 江南)!!!??? [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]Wuhan is a metropolis with various cityscapes. So it doesn't resemble Chicago,Nanoya,Houston,Atlanta, etc.Wuhan is just Wuhan!!!"The Otiental Chicago" is just refer to that Wuhan plays the role in China is similar to that Chicago plays in the US.Wuhan is the largest city in inland China, while Chicago is the largest in inland America. Wuhan was historically called the "Chicago of China" because it was the largest industrial city in the hinterland of China in the early 20th century. This was because there were colonial sections controlled by foreign powers, and it was a major port and railroad terminus. Obviously the two cities have developed in different ways, but the main reason why they were compared was because both were the largest industrial centers and railroad terminus in the hinterlands of both China and the US. While Shanghai and New York can be compared together, as they are both the premiere financial cities of both countries. [IMG] [/IMG]
