Nothing new on their website about the development. Strange that after work seemed to have started there appears to have been no more news on this project.

Well looking through the pictures on their website, the infrastructure and fittings of the old ground are looking very aged, and as a whole the stadium looks like it needs a lot of modernising, so it makes sense to pursue an opportunity to increase revenues by building a new, modern stadium, rather than spend a fortune on the San Mames that would only bring it up to date, and not necessarily increase incomes. All IMO, of course.

San Mamés Barria, SL

Increase in capital, tenders and tender invitations.
The San Mames Barria, S.L. Board of directors had a meeting on 10 December 2010 where it was agreed to proceed with the following tenders subject to the conditions and deadlines detailed in the corresponding documents:
- Tender for execution of Earth Moving work.
- Tender for execution of Equipment Development at San Mames (via the San Mames Coordination Board).
The total and maximum budget for both tenders amounts to 17,075,205 euros (IVA/VAT included).

Likewise, the board proceeded with the approval of tender documents in the areas of Security, Occupational Health and Insurance Mediators.

Tender notification will be published in the newspapers and Official Bulletins in accordance with the regulations, with the aim being, once all the required legal steps have been complied with, the commencement in April 2011 of the new phase of works.
Equally, on 10 December, during the San Mames Barria, S.L. General Meeting an increase concerning the company’s capital was approved to the value of seven million euros (€7,000,000) that will be provided by the Basque Government and Biscay’s Provincial Government. Once these contributions have been made, the composition of the company’s capital will be as follows:

Members - Euros

ATHLETIC CLUB €18,802,000
BISCAY’S PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT €5,002,000
BASQUE GOVERNMENT €5,000,000
BBK €2,002,000
BILBAO TOWN HALL €60,103

As it is known, upon completion of the financial plan, Athletic Club, Biscay’s Provincial Government, the Basque Government and Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa will have the same share in the final participation.

Must catch a game in 'La Catedral' before the wrecking ball arrives.Such a unique club with great traditions.

Whats the timeline for construction?

As you know the stadium is going to be built in two phases, shown below. First 3 stands of the new one, then destroying the old one. And then the last stand:

The timeline is 06.2011 - 06/07.2014. It's supposed to be ready just before the 2014/2015 season.

It's going to be such a shame to see the old San Mamés torn down. I've had the pleasure of seeing three games there over the years and the atmosphere's unlike any other ground in Spain, with the possible exception of the Mestalla.
