Was it shot from the top of a building? Hill? In the air?

It makes the Commerce tower/Alex Brown tower look a whole lot thinner.

Too, I am also trying to figure out where both of those "proposed" Naing Towers would go, in that shot. I think the Cordish Tower would be slightly to the left of Water Tower. Maybe even one of those "Naing" towers.

I think Naing's towers would go about dead center, near the crane. The building with the water tower on top is the one that would have to be demolished for one of the towers. Cordish's tower will be way to the left, not in this picture (I think). It will be just to the left of police headquarters.

skyline view from the south
i cannot wait for some of these 50+ story towers to start taking shape. on my commute back to the city, you only get one "peak" of Baltimore on I-95 North. It comes in the I-195/Beltway zone when you catch a very quick glimpse of the Bank of America Tower and Legg Mason. The trees along the highway block everything else out. some taller buildings will give baltimore a presence along I-95 for a lot longer, which will also help in making Baltimore feel "bigger".
so many people that come to visit me say that baltimore feels a lot smaller than it really is because it sneaks up on you. from the south you really don't see the city until caton avenue. coming in south on 83, the city is tucked thooff to the side until the very end. From the north coming in on 95, the city looks big, but it's far away. having some talls pierce the skyline will really help!

Once 10IH is built, that might overlap with the other three from that angle as well.

If tall enough it will be just to the left of Legg Mason. You can use the Harbor Court tower in this shot to estimate the location of 10IH.

Yeah, usually all cities, when they are young, tend to be cute.

The middle picture is the skyline I remember as a teenager. The Federal Building has a surprising amount of prominence, doesn't it? Today it is almost completely lost.
One thing that was lost when the Federal Building was built was the view of the BG&E building as seen from the south. I thought it was so cool as a kid, when we were driving up Hanover St., the lighted top seemed to float over the city. It was one of the few lighted buildings at the time. In fact, you can see the lighted top in the first photo. Last edited by micrip; April 15th, 2007 at 11:53 PM. |
