Maybe german meters are shorter? offtopic: It came to my mind the story about Planica jumping hill; when the first world records were set (or 1st jump over 100 m?), the jealous competitors were claiming that we have 'shorter' meters...

nice video, but maybe too fast, at least on the country roads, you don't really see the curves .

Motorway company DARS today opened an international tender for constructing microwave based free-flow toll system for trucks and buses, which should be operational until (officially) october 2012. This means new system will be similar (but not necessarily compatible) to Austrian, Czech and Slovak system.

Vignettes for personal cars and vans will remain indefinitely until decided differently.

After implementing that free flow toll system, will the remaining toll stations be demolished, which implies that there will be no more 40 kmh speed limit?

Yes, they will be demolished however this won't happen right away because most bigger (older) toll stations will need large reconstruction and therefore a tender will be done for every station (bureaucracy is these days modern thing).

For example even after almost 4 years of Schengen most of former border crossings are still present.

Thx, Keber.
I took that question because on my opinion the current situation is a bit chaotic. (I posess the annual vignette.)
Many times I have seen that some Slovenian drivers drive concurrently about 20 kmh higher than allowed (which means from driving about 120 where is 100 speed limit to pass the former boot area with 60 where is 40 speed limit).

Fine for going up to 20 km/h faster on motorways is just 80 €, actually just 40 €, if you pay in 8 days. People (including me) also rely on the fact, that those sections are rarely under police surveillance.
Also some speed limits are ridiculous (like 40 km/h speed limit through former toll booths or 60 km/h over whole area). I find also ridiculous 100 km/h speed limit through tunnel, which has hard shoulder (around Maribor and in a month or two new tunnel on A2)

Yeah, beat it. Here in CZ we have 80 km/h in such tunnels. Typically D5 Plzeň bypass. It is 380 m long, with hard houlders, speed limit 80 km/h. Do you still find your 100 km/h ridiculous?

The Netherlands has many tunnels, but only 2 are limited at more than 100 km/h. These two have continuous shoulders. A9 Wijker Tunnel = 120 km/h and A58 Vlake Tunnel = 130 km/h. The latter could be the only 130 km/h tunnel outside Italy.

Italy A23 has no limits in tunnels at all, I mean only 130.

Croatian A1 has (I think) two such tunnels south of Split. They are in fact covered cuttings but are technically double tube tunnels with all necessary electrical equipment.

i think there are 3 of them. one should be north of Split, i forgot its name, and two are south of Split, here they are:

Rošca and Vrankovića ograda

i am not sure for this one north of Split, but i would bet that i saw it.

btw, i have absolutely nothing against 100 km/h inside the tunnels. the things i hate are 40 km/h 500 metres before toll stations (and radars measuring it), or to be ontopic - 100 km/h in areas of side toll station in Slovenia (those new toll stations which are not in the middle of the motorway, but beside)

Hopefully toll stations are going to be thing of the past in next few years.

But I still find really unnecessary having 100 km/h speed limit for 300 m long new and modern tunnel with hard shoulder on otherwise complete straight. We build more and more safer and modern motorways which have more and more ridiculous speed limits (not only in Slovenia though)

I agree, but the point is, you never know after which toll station the police is waiting to fine you.

Another ridiculous speed limit: on Rabuiese superstrada, in the tunnel where tubes for every direction are provided with hard shoulder, the speed limit is 80 kmh.

Excuse me, one more: on Dolenjska motorway (A2, Ljubljana-Obrežje) the speed limit in two short tunnels before Bič (in Ljubljana direction) is 130 kmh, while on the same type short tunnel after Karteljevo there is 100 kmh speed limit. Why? Also, the speed limit in the Brežice short tunnel is 100 kmh.

There is more, on Rijeka beltway the overall speed is 90 kmh (which is understandable). But in two 2x2 tunnels shortly before and after the Rijeka centar interchange, the speed limit is 70 kmh. Why? Perhaps someone in the police felt that drivers in Rijeka are inexperienced in entering or leaving the expressway and therefore slowed all the traffic?
